NOIDA: The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), a premier management institute, has launched a social campaign programme named Beti Hi Bachayegi (Only daughters will save us!) on October 2, 2016 on its 29th Foundation Day.

The purpose of long term campaign will be connecting alumni, faculty and current students with the national endeavour of women empowerment, women safety, girls’ education, gender equality and sustained improvement in sex-ratio (females per 1000 males).

dr-h-chaturvedi“We intend to support the endeavours of district administration in creating awareness about improving Sex Ratio as well as Sex Ratio at Birth in the district through sustained efforts for environment building under our Social Campaign of Beti Hi Bachayegi.”, said Dr H Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH.

Institute has taken many CSR initiatives during the last 12 years or so, viz. running an afternoon school in a slum at Muradnagar for poor children, setting up rural libraries in villages of Dist. Gautam Budhnagar, and also in district jails of Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budhnagar and Aligarh, distributing 1000 blanket for poor people during chilling winter, and lastly, starting a very interesting and long term Project Protasthan Chirayya at the village Neemka Shahjahanpur, a neighbouring village adopted under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAG).

BIMTECHProject Protsahan Chiraiyya is a other social project instituted by BIMTECH, started in the memory of its founder Late Dr. Sarala Devi Birla. It has been initiated with the vision of augmenting life skills among young girls from rural belt.

The project is centered on providing a leadership grooming platform which aims to identify Protsahan Chiraiyya from among the girls who will be trained to become future leaders/ambassadors to create awareness about health, hygiene, education, environment, interpersonal relationships etc. in their village. They will be oriented to perform the role of torch bearers/facilitators/motivators who would further propagate the vision of Project Protsahan across the village.

The Campaign:  So far there has been a lot of publicity on the call given by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi about Beti Bachao (Save Daughter) which has been endorsed by several state governments and NGOs.

“We are trying to give a new perspective to the whole issue by renaming it Beti Hi Bachayegi (Only daughters will save us!).  It means that if girls are provided good education and health facilities, they can become a big change-makers in their future lives when they will be managing families as daughter-in-law, wife and mother.”,  Dr Chaturvedi added.

“Institute is located in the District Guatam Budhnagar which is one of the most prosperous districts of UP and contributes highest tax revenue to the state exchequer.  Now if you compare its economic status with the social status, you will be astounded to know that on some social indicators, district Gautam Budhnagar is a laggard even in UP.”, he said.

As per the Census of 2011, Sex Ratio (Females per 1000 males) of the district was 851 much lower than the national Sex Ratio of 940. The District administration of the Gautam Budh Nagar under the leadership of Mr NP Singh, IAS, DM has been conducting various awareness programmes and taking strict action against illegal ultrasound diagnostic centres that conduct sex determination test. Due to these consistent efforts, Sex Ratio At Birth of the district has improved from 845 girls per 1000 boys in 2015 to 884 girls per 1000 boys in 2016.

The following activities are contemplated for the next 2-3 years under Social Campaign of Beti Hi Bachayegi:

Creating Awareness among school girls and their teachers against illegal foeticide and motivating them for a change in perception of their parents.

Involving and mobilizing cultural organizations, activists, writers, media persons, doctors, social workers and religious leaders in favour of Beti Hi Bachayegi Programme.

Providing life-skills, soft skills and career counseling to school girls.

Involving Ragini Singers (folk singers who are very popular in our district) in favour of Beti Hi Bachayegi theme.

Promoting Beti Hi Bachayegi campaign on Social Media (Twitter, Facebook etc.) through alumni, students, faculty and staff.
