We had the pleasure of getting a glimpse of The Armenian School in Kolkata, better known as the Armenian College. Established in 1821, the institute stands out as a living testimony of the oldest seat of learning in the entire Armenian diaspora. It has been preserving Armenian culture for over 190 years.
Philanthropic Mission of the Armenian Church
The school is a living example of the philanthropic mission of the Armenian Church who as a part of their commitment to society and service to mankind and God imparts quality education to Armenian students across the globe.

Scholarships for Armenian Students
Every Armenian student no matter from which part of the world they come from and irrespective of their socio-economic strata can avail of scholarships to study in this school. Some of the students who have come from Iran, Iraq or Armenia unfortunately have lost their parents. These students are fully sponsored by the Armenian Church and their stay, study and participation in co-curricular activities are all funded by the Church.
Oasis in the Heart of Kolkata, India
Amidst the hustle bustle and daily din of central Kolkata, India the school has built a sanctuary of its own. The spotlessly clean school houses one of the best Gymnasiums, a basketball court, and a rugby field. It also has a covered swimming pool and an auditorium for cultural functions.
Holistic Education and Cultural Roots
The school imparts music lessons, dancing classes and is proud to have one of the best Rugby teams in Kolkata. Although the school follows Delhi Board of Education the students are taught Armenian language and religious studies so that they are firmly rooted to their own culture as well.
Educational Pursuits Beyond School
Very Rev.Fr. Zaven Yazichan, Assistant Manager to Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy, Kolkata said, “After completing their school level education most of the students stay back for higher education in India and join business schools or hotel management institutes”.
Empowering Armenian Children Worldwide
The philanthropic mission of the Armenian Church wishes to provide every Armenian child the opportunity to know the world and excel in their field of education.
