Conducts Free Special Eye Camps across four villages including free eye screenings, spectacles, medicines and specialist consultations under Project Arogya
SINGHITRAI, SAKTI (India CSR®): With a vision to promote accessible and inclusive healthcare, Vedanta Power Limited Sakti Thermal Power Plant organised two-day special eye camps across Singhitarai, Odekera, Nimohi, and Benipali villages, covering three Gram Panchayats under Project Aarogya. The camps benefited nearly 600 villagers through free eye examinations, medical consultations, medicines, and spectacles.
Organised in collaboration with PHD Rural Development Foundation, New Delhi, the camps brought together eye specialists and trained paramedical professionals to provide comprehensive eye-care services at designated community locations. Beneficiaries underwent vision screening using vision charts and auto-refractometers, along with examinations for cataracts, pterygium, and refractive errors. Around 500 villagers were provided with spectacles, while patients requiring advanced medical attention were referred to Sakti District Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Project Aarogya reflects Vedanta Power’s commitment to strengthening community healthcare infrastructure and promoting preventive health screenings. Under the initiative, a mobile health unit operates across three Gram Panchayats, offering daily health camps through a qualified doctor and trained medical personnel. The unit provides free consultations, essential medicines, and screening for common health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and anaemia. In addition to curative services, the project focuses on health awareness and community capacity building through sessions on maternal and child health, breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, and preventive measures against waterborne diseases.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO and Whole-time Director, Vedanta Power, said, “Through Project Aarogya, our endeavour is to bridge healthcare gaps at the grassroots by taking quality medical services closer to the people and enabling them to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Seeing nearly 600 villagers receiving the benefits from these eye camps is heartening and reinforces the importance of making essential healthcare more accessible. The real impact lies in enabling timely care that can make a meaningful difference to everyday lives of communities around us.”
Devendra Kumar Patel, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Power Sakti Thermal Power Plant, said that the plant remains committed to strengthening community health and ensuring accessible and quality healthcare services for those in need. He highlighted that organising specialised eye camps and health-awareness programmes within villages helps bring essential healthcare closer to communities, particularly benefiting people who may face financial or logistical challenges in travelling to urban centres for treatment. He expressed confidence that Project Aarogya would continue to create meaningful impact and contribute towards strengthening the rural healthcare ecosystem in Sakti district.
For local residents, the camps offered an opportunity to access specialist eye care without the need for an immediate trip to a faraway healthcare centre. Meena Rathia from Odekera and Dikeshwari Vaishnav from Nimohi, who benefited from the camps, appreciated Vedanta Power’s efforts to bring eye screening, consultations and spectacles directly to the villages. They expressed hope that similar camps would continue to benefit communities in the future.
