CSR Obligation and Overall Spending

According to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited’s annual report, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals calculated its CSR obligation based on its average net profit over the previous three financial years. This average stood at approximately Rs 1,535 crores 76 lakhs. Based on this, the company’s mandatory CSR obligation for FY 2024–25 was Rs 30 crores 5 lakhs.

However, the report states that the actual CSR expenditure exceeded this requirement. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals spent Rs 30 crores 71 lakhs during the year. This includes direct spending on various CSR programmes as well as Rs 18 lakhs allocated toward impact assessment studies.

The annual report highlights that such assessments help evaluate programme effectiveness and ensure that funds are used efficiently to deliver measurable outcomes.

Focus on Healthcare and Community Development

Healthcare remains the largest area of CSR spending for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals. According to the report, approximately Rs 18 crores 42 lakhs was allocated to healthcare and community development initiatives.

A key focus has been on maternal and child health. Through its flagship programme, Project Kavach, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals works in several states including Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim.

The report highlights that mobile medical units, known as “Health on Wheels,” were deployed to provide basic healthcare services in remote and underserved regions. These units offer services such as health check-ups, immunisation support, and nutrition counselling.

In Jharkhand’s Khunti district, which is identified as an Aspirational District, the programme reached over 3,100 children and nearly 1,000 women. The report notes that the initiative focuses on early detection of malnutrition and anemia among vulnerable populations.

Another significant initiative is the Boat Clinic programme in Assam. According to the annual report, this initiative delivers healthcare services to communities living on river islands, where access to medical facilities is limited due to geographical challenges.

Investment in Education and Skill Development

Education is another important area of Glenmark’s CSR activities. The annual report states that Glenmark Pharmaceuticals spent around Rs 3 crores 50 lakhs on education-related initiatives during FY 2024–25.

These programmes focus on improving access to quality education and supporting skill development. According to the report, more than 900 individuals were trained through various livelihood and skill-building programmes.

In addition, infrastructure support was provided to schools in regions such as Jalgaon, Dhule, and Satara. The report highlights that these interventions benefited over 1,400 students by improving learning environments.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals also continued its support for assistive programmes such as the Jaipur Foot initiative. Through this effort, over 1,200 individuals received artificial limbs and mobility aids, helping them lead more independent lives.

Promoting Sports Through Dedicated Initiatives

Sports development forms a unique part of Glenmark’s CSR strategy. According to the annual report, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals allocated Rs 8 crores 5 lakhs toward sports initiatives, particularly through the Glenmark Aquatic Foundation.

The foundation focuses on promoting swimming as a competitive sport in India. The report highlights that over 5,100 swimmers have been trained through this initiative so far, winning more than 470 medals in various competitions.

In addition to physical training, the programme also includes coaching support and access to professional facilities. The aim, as stated in the report, is to create opportunities for young athletes and support talent development at the national level.

Global CSR Initiatives and Outreach

While a large part of Glenmark’s CSR work is focused in India, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals also undertakes initiatives in other countries. According to the annual report, programmes in regions such as the Philippines and Kenya focus on addressing malnutrition among children and supporting maternal health.

In the United States, Glenmark invested approximately Rs 14 crores 37 lakhs to support the development of an aseptic training facility at South Piedmont Community College. The report highlights that this initiative is expected to enhance skill development and employment opportunities in the healthcare manufacturing sector.

These global initiatives reflect Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited’s broader approach to social responsibility beyond its domestic operations.

Employee Volunteering and Community Participation

The annual report highlights that employee engagement plays an important role in Glenmark’s CSR activities. Through its “Global Joy of Giving” initiative, employees across multiple countries contributed more than 1,10,500 hours of volunteer work during the year.

These activities covered areas such as education, environmental awareness, and community support. According to the report, participation came from 25 locations across 18 countries.

One of the initiatives included tree plantation drives linked to employee engagement campaigns. The report notes that over 1,400 trees were planted as part of these efforts.

Governance and Transparency in CSR

According to the annual report, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has a structured governance system for CSR. A dedicated CSR Committee oversees all programmes and ensures compliance with the Companies Act, 2013.

The report highlights that projects are aligned with national priorities and global development goals. Regular monitoring and independent impact assessments are conducted to evaluate programme outcomes.

This approach ensures transparency and accountability in the use of CSR funds.

Social Impact and Reach

The annual report states that Glenmark’s CSR initiatives impacted around 45 lakh people during FY 2024–25. These beneficiaries include individuals supported through healthcare programmes, education initiatives, and community development projects.

The report highlights that most beneficiaries come from underserved and rural communities, where access to basic services remains limited.

By focusing on these groups, the company aims to address gaps in healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

A Continued Focus on Inclusive Development

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited’s CSR spending of Rs 30 crores 71 lakhs in FY 2024–25 reflects a structured and impact-driven approach to social responsibility. According to the annual report, the company continues to focus on key areas such as maternal health, child welfare, education, and sports development.

The report suggests that the company aims to expand its outreach and deepen its impact in the coming years. With a focus on measurable outcomes and long-term engagement, Glenmark’s CSR initiatives are designed to support inclusive growth.

As India continues to face challenges in public health and education, such corporate efforts play an important supporting role. Glenmark’s CSR disclosures provide a detailed view of how targeted investments can contribute to improving lives at scale while maintaining transparency and accountability.
