CSR Spending in FY2025: Understanding the Numbers

Varun Beverages Limited reported total CSR expenditure of Rs 46.53 crore for the year 2025. According to the annual report, the company’s average net profit over the preceding three financial years stood at approximately Rs 2,313.99 crore.

Based on this financial performance, the company’s CSR obligation for the year was calculated at Rs 46.28 crore, as required under Section 135 of the Companies Act.

The report states that the company spent Rs 29.13 crore on CSR projects during the year, while Rs 17.15 crore remained unspent at the end of the financial year. This unspent amount was transferred to a designated Unspent CSR Account, where it will be used for ongoing multi-year projects in areas such as water conservation and rural development.

This structure allows the company to continue implementing long-term projects without disruption, particularly those involving environmental restoration and community infrastructure.

Water Conservation Emerges as a Key Priority

Water management remains one of the most significant CSR priorities for Varun Beverages Limited. As a beverage manufacturer, water is an essential resource for the company’s operations. The annual report highlights that the company has adopted several initiatives to replenish water resources and improve water security in local communities.

In 2025, the company reported achieving a water recharge ratio of 2.34 times, meaning that for every litre of water used in its operations, more than two litres were replenished back into the environment.

According to the annual report, the company contributed to the recharge of around 1,680 crore litres of water during the year. These results were achieved through various projects such as restoring ponds, building recharge wells, and supporting watershed development activities.

The company also continued to maintain and rejuvenate more than 300 water bodies across different regions. These initiatives aim to increase groundwater levels, improve irrigation facilities for farmers, and ensure water availability for local communities.

In many cases, these projects were implemented in collaboration with local organizations and technical institutions to ensure scientific planning and long-term sustainability.

Community Healthcare Initiatives Expand

Healthcare support also formed an important part of Varun Beverages’ CSR programs in 2025. According to the company’s annual report, several initiatives were implemented to provide basic medical services to underserved communities.

One of the key programs is the AARU Care initiative, which provides free medical consultation, diagnostic services, and medicines for economically weaker populations.

The report highlights that the program has served more than 5.38 lakh patients since its launch. In 2025 alone, over one lakh people received medical support through these facilities.

Currently, the program operates four healthcare clinics located in states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana. These clinics focus on preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and treatment of common illnesses.

Such initiatives are particularly important in rural areas where access to healthcare services remains limited.

Education and Skill Development Programs

Education continues to be another core area of CSR investment for Varun Beverages Limited. According to the annual report, the company has supported various initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

One of the key initiatives mentioned in the report is the Shiksha Kendra program, which provides learning support and educational infrastructure for students in rural and semi-urban communities.

The company has also invested in skill development programs designed to improve employment opportunities for young people. These programs focus on vocational training that helps youth gain practical skills required for various industries.

Through its Pravah Skill Development Centres, the company aims to train young individuals who are not currently engaged in education or employment. These centres provide technical training and career guidance to help participants become part of the formal workforce.

According to the annual report, these programs aim to address the growing challenge of youth unemployment while improving economic stability for families.

Environmental Sustainability and Plastic Recycling

Environmental sustainability has become an increasingly important part of the company’s CSR strategy. The annual report highlights several initiatives related to waste management, plastic recycling, and renewable energy adoption.

One of the major achievements reported in 2025 is the recycling of 100 percent of PET bottles used by the company. The company recycled approximately 2.08 lakh metric tonnes of plastic waste during the year.

This effort was supported through partnerships with recycling organizations that collect post-consumer plastic waste and convert it into reusable materials.

The company has also focused on supporting waste collectors and ragpickers by creating safer working conditions and improving awareness about plastic recycling.

In addition to waste management, the company continued its tree plantation initiatives. Since 2020, the company has planted more than 5.12 lakh trees around its manufacturing plants and surrounding areas.

Renewable energy adoption is another area highlighted in the report. The company increased the share of renewable energy in its operations to around 21 percent of total energy consumption during 2025.

Social Initiatives in International Markets

Varun Beverages Limited operates in several countries across Asia and Africa, and its CSR initiatives extend beyond India.

According to the annual report, the company supported community development projects in countries including Zimbabwe, Morocco, Nepal, and Zambia.

In Zimbabwe, the company supported livelihood initiatives by distributing 6,700 push carts, which helped create employment opportunities for marginalized groups including women and war widows.

In Morocco, the company provided relief support following the earthquake in the Al Haouz region, assisting affected communities during the recovery process.

In Nepal, the company supported the AARU Clinic in Kathmandu and contributed to healthcare services through partnerships with local medical institutions.

In Zambia, the company worked with international organizations to promote reforestation and access to clean drinking water, particularly for rural communities.

Governance and CSR Oversight

The implementation of CSR programs at Varun Beverages Limited is overseen by a dedicated CSR Committee of the Board.

According to the annual report, the committee is responsible for approving CSR policies, reviewing project proposals, and monitoring the progress of ongoing initiatives.

The report highlights that CSR projects are selected based on community needs and are aligned with national development priorities and global sustainability goals.

The company also conducts periodic monitoring and evaluation to ensure that projects deliver measurable benefits to communities.

Continuing Commitment to Social Impact

Varun Beverages Limited’s CSR spending of Rs 46.53 crore in 2025 reflects the company’s continued commitment to social responsibility alongside its expanding global operations.

Through initiatives focused on water conservation, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and community development, the company aims to create long-term positive impact.

According to the company’s annual report, these initiatives are designed not only to meet statutory obligations but also to strengthen the company’s relationship with the communities where it operates.

As the company continues to grow its beverage business across multiple markets, its CSR programs are expected to remain an important part of its broader sustainability strategy.
