India’s air quality problem isn’t seasonal anymore — what used to be a Delhi-winter headline now shows up in city after city, month after month, on the CPCB’s own monitoring data. An air conditioner won’t fix it: standard split ACs recirculate the indoor air they’re already cooling, they don’t draw in or filter outdoor air, so a sealed, air-conditioned room can still be sitting in stale, particulate-heavy air. That’s the gap air purifiers are actually built for, and in 2026 Indian buyers have a genuinely wide field to choose from — from ₹5,000 compact units to ₹30,000+ premium systems, and a newer category of ceiling-mounted purifiers built specifically to also circulate that clean air around the room, rather than filtering it in place.

This list is built from official brand-website pricing and specs wherever we could get to them directly, cross-checked against current retail listings elsewhere.

The CPCB India AQI scale (use this, not the US EPA scale)

PM2.5 (µg/m³)AQI CategoryAQI Range
0–30Good0–50
31–60Satisfactory51–100
61–90Moderate101–200
91–120Poor201–300
121–250Very Poor301–400
251–500Severe401–500

How to actually compare these (before you look at the list)

Three things decide how well a purifier actually performs in a real Indian room — more than the brand name ever does:

1. Where it sits: central or ceiling-mounted beats a corner-standing tower. A purifier tucked in a corner or behind furniture only ever cleans the air immediately around it; one placed centrally, or mounted on the ceiling, has a clear, unobstructed path across the whole room.

2. Whether it actually circulates the air it cleans: most standalone purifiers on this list are stationary towers — they draw air in, filter it, and release it back out locally, without actively throwing that clean air across the room. A design with genuine air-circulation (not just an internal cooling fan for the filter stage) spreads clean air much further, which matters more as room size grows.

3. CADR relative to your room size: a widely used sizing rule is that your room size in square feet should be roughly 1.5 × the purifier’s CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate, in m³/h) — buying on brand name alone without checking this is the single most common mistake in this category.

Filter grade (HEPA H11 vs H13) matters far less in practice than these three — H13 traps a marginally higher share of ultra-fine particles, but both grades are genuinely effective at typical Indian indoor PM2.5 levels. Sizing and placement decide real-world performance more than the HEPA sub-grade does.

The Top 10

1. Karban Airzone Pure — HEPA Air Purifier with Air Circulator and Light

A ceiling-mounted HEPA air purifier that also functions as a genuine bladeless air circulator with a dimmable, colour-changing light — one fixture instead of three separate appliances. H11 HEPA filtration at 99.5% efficiency, CADR of 250 m³/h rated for rooms up to 400 sq ft, live AQI monitoring in the companion app with a colour indicator on the unit itself, priced at ₹18,999 (official karban.in price, verified 2026-07-23). Air circulation: unlike a stationary purifier, this actively pushes filtered air across the room at 3,900 CMH (6–7 m/sec) — the circulation is the point, not a side effect of the fan that cools the filter. Airflow is directional, not omnidirectional — air is expelled downward and outward in the direction the vents point. Best for: households that want purification without adding another floor-standing box to the room.

2. Karban Airzone Pure Plus — HEPA Air Purifier with Air Circulator and Light (Large Format)

The large-format version, built for bigger or open-plan rooms — CADR 500 m³/h, coverage up to 800 sq ft, ₹34,999 (official price, verified 2026-07-23). Its defining feature is Dual Zone Technology: two Airzone Pure units in one fixture, each independently controlled, so a large living room can run different airflow and purification levels on either side. Air circulation: airflow of 7,800 CMH (6–7 m/sec), same directional push-not-drift design as the Pure. Best for: open-plan living/dining spaces where a single small purifier can’t realistically cover the room, or actively move the air within it.

3. Coway Airmega 150

Frequently cited as a top overall pick in Indian buying guides — confirmed True HEPA H13 filtration, 303 m³/h CADR, an 8,500-hour filter life. Indian retail pricing varies widely by source at the time of writing (₹20,700–34,900) — no clean official India-site price was found, so confirm the current number before publishing. Air circulation: a stationary tower purifier — it has an internal fan to pull air through the filter and push it back out, but it isn’t designed to throw air across a room the way a circulator is. Best for: buyers who want a proven, widely reviewed standalone purifier at a mid-range price.

4. Philips AC3220/60 (PureProtect 3200 Series)

Confirmed on Philips India’s own site: ₹22,995, 520 m³/h CADR, HEPA + activated carbon filtration, covering up to 667 sq ft. Air circulation: same as Coway above — a stationary unit with an internal fan for filtration throughput, not room-wide air throw. Best for: bigger single rooms or studio apartments needing higher raw CADR than compact units offer.

5. Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4

Confirmed on Xiaomi’s official India site (mi.com/in): CADR of 387 m³/h, covering up to 516 sq ft, with app control; Indian retail pricing has ranged ₹12,999–18,999 depending on offers (average around ₹15,600). Air circulation: stationary tower design, same local-filtration-not-circulation profile as the other standalone units on this list. Best for: buyers who want app-based monitoring without paying a premium for it, and who care about long-term filter costs (cheap replacement filters, around ₹2,999).

6. Honeywell Air Touch V5

Confirmed pricing found at ₹9,699 (MRP ₹13,000) — H13 HEPA filtration, CADR of 380 m³/h covering up to 589 sq ft, 9,000-hour filter life, Wi-Fi and Alexa control. Air circulation: stationary design; strong CADR for its price point but not built as a room-wide circulator. Best for: buyers who want a long filter-replacement cycle to keep running costs down.

7. Honeywell Air Touch V1

Honeywell’s budget entry — ₹4,999 (MRP ₹9,999), genuine H13 HEPA filtration (not a cheaper HEPA-lite alternative), CADR of 152 m³/h covering up to 235 sq ft. Air circulation: stationary, smallest-room-only profile — check the 235 sq ft coverage carefully against your actual room size before buying on price alone. Best for: the tightest budget that still insists on true HEPA filtration.

8. Dyson HushJet™ Purifier Compact HJ10

Dyson’s compact purifier — confirmed on Dyson’s own India site at ₹29,900 (reduced from ₹34,900), using a 360° electrostatic filter rated at 99.97% removal efficiency for particles as small as 0.3 microns (Dyson’s own page doesn’t use the “HEPA H13” label for this filter — it’s described specifically as an electrostatic filter). Air circulation: yes — this is a genuine air-multiplier fan-purifier combo, so it does actively project purified air across the room, similar in spirit to Karban’s circulator approach.

A real contradiction worth flagging: Dyson’s own India product page (dyson.in) states this exact model “purifies rooms up to 1076 sq.ft.” Dyson’s US site listings for the same HushJet Compact model state coverage of up to 203 sq ft — roughly a fifth of the India-stated figure, for what appears to be the identical product. We could not find a stated reason for the gap (different room-shape/ceiling-height test standards, different regional marketing claims, or simply inconsistent copy between the two sites) — flagging it here rather than picking one number, since a reader comparing Dyson’s own two official sites would reasonably ask which is true.

Best for: buyers prioritising the Dyson brand and genuine air-multiplier circulation, who should size their room expectations conservatively given the above.

9. Blueair (HealthProtect/Blue Pure range, mid-tier models)

Blueair’s Indian lineup runs CADR around 400 m³/h on its mid-tier models. Indian pricing found via retail aggregators only (₹11,999–14,999) — we could not locate a direct official India-site price at the time of writing, so treat this figure as indicative, not confirmed, until checked immediately before publish. Air circulation: stationary tower design, positioned on fast initial air-cleaning speed rather than room-wide throw. Best for: buyers who want a fast initial clean-air delivery in a mid-size room.

10. Kent Eternal

Kent’s higher-end purifier — CADR 400 m³/h rated for around 300 sq ft. Pricing found ranges ₹16,005–18,150 across sources, and at least one price-tracking source flags this specific model as possibly discontinued — confirm current availability directly with Kent before quoting a price. Air circulation: stationary design, standard for this category. Best for: buyers who want an established Indian appliance brand’s after-sales network, subject to confirming the model is still in production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does running an air conditioner also purify the room’s air?

No — a standard split AC recirculates and cools the same indoor air rather than drawing in fresh outdoor air, so it does nothing to remove PM2.5 or other particulates; only models with dedicated external fresh-air ducting bring in outdoor air, and even then it isn’t filtered the way a purifier’s HEPA stage filters air.

What CADR do I actually need for my room?

A commonly used rule is room size in square feet ≈ 1.5 × the purifier’s CADR in m³/h — so a 300 sq ft bedroom needs roughly a 200 m³/h CADR unit, and a 600 sq ft living room needs closer to 400 m³/h, before you even compare brands.

Does a purifier actually move clean air around the room, or just filter it where it sits?

Most standalone tower purifiers filter locally — they pull air in, clean it, and release it nearby, without actively throwing it across the room. A design built with genuine air-circulation in mind (an integrated circulator or air-multiplier fan, not just a small internal cooling fan) will spread that clean air further, which matters more as room size grows.

Is HEPA H13 meaningfully better than H11 for Indian pollution levels?

H13 traps a marginally higher share of the very smallest particles than H11, but both grades are genuinely effective against the PM2.5 levels typical of Indian cities — filter maintenance and correctly sizing the CADR to your room matter more in practice than the H11-vs-H13 difference alone.

Why do some brands state very different coverage areas for the same product in different countries?

It happens — as documented above with one brand’s India vs. US-site coverage claims for an identical model — and the honest answer is that a stated coverage figure is only as reliable as the test standard behind it, which isn’t always disclosed or consistent between regional websites. Always compare the room-size math against a purifier’s CADR, rather than trusting a single “sq ft” number at face value.
