MUMBAI: In continuation with its efforts towards environment conservation, Tata Power India’s largest integrated private power utility is now collaborating with BVIEER for Environment education programme in 5 schools each in Maval & Mulshi area, Raigad district to help the schools towards Sustainable environment education.
The programme highlights a structured action oriented environment education program based on sustainable development. The main objective of the program is to educate school students about their immediate environment and impart knowledge about the eco system, their interdependence and their need for survival through visits and demonstrations and to mobilize youngsters by instilling in them the spirit of scientific inquiry into environmental problems and involving them in the efforts of environmental preservation.
Speaking on the initiative Mr Mahesh Paranjpe, Head- Hydro stations said “The solution to many environmental problems lie in our attitude towards our environment be it awareness to keep our surroundings clean or the realization to conserve natural resources by using and recycling wherever possible. The best way to attempt is to bring a change in the society through our children since they are the future and also credible influencers in the family.”
Dr. Erach Bharucha, Director -BVIEER said that “the training programme is based on the NCERT curriculum and now we want to introduce education sustainability in the education process”. Recently, a consortium of Indian Institutes that includes BVIEER, CEE, NCERT TERI, have been identified to guide and coordinate the training programme.
Tata Power has presence in Maval and Mulshi villages (through 6 lakes) in Pune District. The catchment area village students study in various schools run by Pune Zilla Parishad. Tata Power has contributed towards construction of class rooms and till date has constructed over 65 class rooms in Maval & Mulshi.
