MUMBAI: Leading sustainability leaders and experts gathered under one roof to discuss and find ways for the decarbonization of supply chains and charting out a path to bridge the gap between goals, clean technologies, policy, and action. The occasion was Decarbonizing Growth Summit and key opinion makers presenting the ideas were Anirban Ghosh, the Chief Sustainability Officer of Mahindra & Mahindra; Tony Henshaw who is the Chief Sustainability Officer of Aditya Birla Group; Saurabh Kumar who is Managing Director of EESL, the world’s largest public energy service company; Michael Satin, Director, Clean Energy and Environment Office, USAID India; George Hamilton – President of the Institute for Sustainable Communities and experts from H&M, ACC Limited, Ambuja Cements, Sabic, WRI India, and CDP among others. The Summit was organised under the aegis of The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and discussions were held on hot topics of the development sector such as – Strategies to Accelerate Decarbonization, Transforming India’s Energy Efficiency Market, Scaling Circular Business Models, etc.
Anirban Ghosh, Chief Sustainability Officer, Mahindra and Mahindra gave insights into carbon consumption and discussed how Top 100 corporations cause about 71% of emissions. Michael Satin, Director, Clean Energy and Environment Office, USAID India presented path breaking ideas and projects undertaken across the world to reduce carbon emissions.
The initiative stood for urgency, hope, opportunity, collaboration and commitment to decarbonize supply chains which is one of the key factors for climate change. ISC was founded in 1991 by Vermont Governor Madeleine M Kunin and President George Hamilton and has led transformative, community-driven projects across the globe.
For the current set of initiatives, President of ISC, George Hamilton says “We have worked over 100 projects across USA and Asia and we play a key role in policy making, offering solutions and best practices for factories and cities along with removing the barriers to large scale implementation. We help factories decarbonise, and improve worker health and safety”
Other experts offered insights and solution on how to cut down dependency on fossil fuel and switch to electric. While leaders admitted that we are facing a monumental challenge on climate change but also provided a glimmer of hope that supply chain sustainability can be achieved by Collaboration and Policy framework to reduce carbon footprint and ushering into a low carbon future.
