Delhi Metro to start early on Republic Day 2024: Special service timings and coupon system announced for parade attendees

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will commence its services at 4 am on January 26, 2024, to facilitate the public to reach Kartavya Path to witness the Republic Day parade. Train services will be available at a headway of 30 minutes till 6 am and thereafter, a regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day.

DMRC has also introduced a coupon system for passengers holding valid e-invitation cards or e-tickets for the Republic Day ceremony. These coupons will be issued upon presentation of a government-issued photo identity card at the Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan metro stations. These coupons will be valid for exiting only from these two stations to reach Kartavya Path. A similar coupon will also be applicable for the return journey exclusively from these two stations.

Designated stations for different enclosures

DMRC has provided guidelines for passengers alighting at stations based on their assigned enclosure numbers on their e-invitation cards or e-tickets. Passengers with enclosure numbers 1 to 9 and V1 and V2 are advised to alight at Udyog Bhawan Metro Station. Similarly, those with enclosure numbers 10 to 24 and VN are recommended to exit at the Central Secretariat Metro Station.

DMRC has assured that regular announcements will be made inside the trains to inform passengers about the same so that they deboard at designated stations to reach their enclosures smoothly.

Security measures and traffic arrangements

Extensive preparations have been undertaken to ensure the safety and security of the anticipated 77,000 invitees at Kartavya Path for this year’s parade, as reported by PTI citing police on Wednesday. Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Dependra Pathak, during a press briefing at the Delhi Police headquarters, highlighted the implementation of professional, robust, and impeccable security measures throughout Delhi for Republic Day.

Various restrictions, including those on flights and traffic, have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event at Kartavya Path. No traffic will be permitted on Vijay Chowk, Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Delhi Gate, and Netaji Subhash Marg after 4 am. Vehicular traffic along the Republic Day parade route will be redirected from 04:00 A.M. based on the recommendations of the traffic police.

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has also announced new traffic arrangements for the Republic Day parade on January 26. To ensure seamless bus operation during this period, DTC will implement its modified plans. Several key diversion points, including Shanti Path-Punchsheel Marg, Vinay Marg-Samrat Hotel, and Aurbindo Marg-Lodhi Road, T-Point/Safdarjung Road on Aurbindo Marg, have been identified. Buses operating on these routes will be rerouted to maintain continuous service amidst ongoing parade preparations.

By adhering to the provided guidelines, metro passengers can ensure a convenient journey to witness the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. DMRC’s efforts underscore the commitment to facilitating public events and ensuring a seamless transportation experience for all.
