LANJIGARH: With an aim to create awareness about energy consumption – on the occasion of “National Energy Conservation Day” on 14th December, 2011 – an Energy Walk was conducted where over 500 employees of Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL), Lanjigarh and its associated companies participated. Dr. Mukesh Kumar, President & COO-VAL flagged off and led the Energy Walk which kick starts the “National Energy Conservation Week” which will be celebrated during 14th – 21st December, 2011.
The Energy Walk started off at the VAL Township and concluded at the administrative office of the VAL alumina refinery. Slogans were given, Placards & Banners were displayed for conservation of energy.
All the senior management of VAL-Lanjigarh participated in the Energy Walk including: Mr. Bimalananda Senapati, Head-Process; Mr. KR Kundu, Head-HR; Mr. N Nagesh, Vice President–Projects; Venkat Reddy, Head-Power Plant; Mr. Manoj Agarwal, Head-Finance; Mr. Premkumar, Head-Commercial. The Energy Walk was followed by a oath taking ceremony.
On the occasion of the ‘National Energy Conservation Week’, a week-long programme has been also been organized by VAL at the company premises and township which includes – Energy awareness campaign at VAL township on 16th December; One hour power cut in the township on 19th December to create awareness on ‘Save Energy’; Knowledge enhancement session on “Energy conservation” on 20th December and the concluding meeting of the ‘National Energy Conservation Week’ on December 21, 2011.
On the occasion, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, said, “Change begins from within, so does Energy Conservation. To be pioneers in Energy Conservation, we will have to demonstrate our commitment into action. We will put our best foot forward in creating VAL, Lanjigarh as one of the benchmark Energy Efficient Refinery across the globe.”
Recently, Vedanta Aluminium Ltd, Lanjigarh has been awarded with prestigious National Energy Management Award 2011 – “Excellence Energy Efficient Unit” by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Also, VAL was honoured with the “National Award for Excellence in Water Management 2011” by CII on 25th November, 2011 at Jaipur, Rajasthan.
“This award not only proves our commitment towards conservation of natural resource and ecological improvement but also take us a step ahead in pursuit of our journey for excellence and establish ourselves to be the best practice Company”, added Dr. Mukesh Kumar.
