NEW DELHI: The OMQ (Ore, Mines & Quarries) Division of Tata Steel has been conferred the Energy and Environment Foundation Global Water Conservation Award 2018 in Platinum Category at the World Water Summit 2018 held at New Delhi today.
Rahul Kishore, Head, Mining Operation, Katamati Iron Mine, OMQ Division, Tata Steel received the award on behalf of the Company from Upendra Prasad Singh, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India.
The award acknowledges and rewards outstanding innovation, promising water conservation and management practices undertaken by Indian industries from varied sectors. Global Water Conservation Award is organised by the Energy and Environment Foundation to recognise and honour outstanding organisations. The award aims to encourage and celebrate the responsible business movement across the globe. The environmental policy of Tata Steel emphasizes efficient use of natural resources & energy, waste avoidance and recycling measures.
Expressing happiness on receiving the award, Pankaj Satija, General Manager (OMQ), Tata Steel said, “We at Tata Steel have deployed appropriate methods to optimise the use of water with an increased emphasis on water recirculation in all its processes. The Company has been conserving water through various processes such as large-scale rainwater harvesting projects, water recovery and recycling, protection of water sources at the mines and zero water discharge at the mines to name a few. We are accelerating progress towards ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all (SDG 6) as well as to contribute to the achievement of the multiple SDGs that also depend on the development and adequate management of our planet’s water resources.”
