Shiv Nadar, founder and Chairman Emeritus of HCL Technologies, established the company in 1976 with a vision to manufacture calculators and microprocessors.


Shiv Nadar is a well-known businessman and the founder and Chairman Emeritus of HCL Technologies, one of India’s largest software services firms. In a garage in 1976, he founded HCL with the goal of manufacturing calculators and microprocessors. HCL Technologies is currently one of India’s leading software service providers, with a revenue of $11.8 billion.

Sivasubramaniya Nadar and Vamasundari Devi gave birth to Shiv Nadar. In Chennai, his father ran a small textile trading business. Roshni Nadar Malhotra is Nadar’s daughter from her marriage to Kiran Nadar.

In July 2020, he stepped down as chairman of HCL Technologies and handed over the reins to his daughter, Roshni Nadar Malhotra. However, he now serves as chairman emeritus and serves as a strategic advisor.

Monetary value

Shiv Nadar’s net worth is estimated to be around $24.7 billion, making him one of the richest people in India and the world, according to Forbes. According to Forbes’ most recent list of the richest Indians, Nadar ranks third, trailing only Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

A Career in Business

Shiv Nadar began his career as a computer programmer at the DCM group of companies in Delhi. He founded HCL Technologies in 1976 with a capital investment of Rs 1,87,000, which was a sizable sum at the time.

According to Forbes, HCL grew under his leadership to become one of India’s leading technology companies, with a presence in over 60 countries and a workforce of more than 2,22,000 employees.

Philanthropy

Shiv Nadar is a well-known Indian philanthropist. In 1994, he established the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which focuses on education and rural development. The VidyaGyan schools, which provide free education to underprivileged children in rural Uttar Pradesh, are one of the foundation’s initiatives. He has also contributed significantly to a variety of charitable causes, including COVID-19 relief efforts in India.
