Sergio Gor, currently Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office since 2025, has been a long-time associate of Trump.

Washington (India CSR): US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that Sergio Gor will serve as the next United States Ambassador to India and also take on the role of Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. The announcement was made on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.

“I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs,” Trump wrote. “As Director of Presidential Personnel, Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in RECORD time — Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled!”

Trump added that Gor will continue in his current position until the Senate confirms his new role.

Who is Sergio Gor?

Sergio Gor, currently Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office since 2025, has been a long-time associate of Trump. Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1986—then part of the Soviet Union—Gor later spent some years in Malta before moving to the United States.

Trump, praising his loyalty, said: “Sergio is a great friend, who has been at my side for many years. He worked on my Historic Presidential Campaigns, published my Best Selling Books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs, which supported our Movement.”

Political Career and Trump Connection

Gor’s association with Trump dates back to 2020, when he served as chief of staff of the Trump Victory Finance Committee. He later became a senior advisor to MAGA Inc. and also led Right for America, a political action committee backing Trump.

Over the years, Gor has been a key political operator in conservative circles. He has managed fundraising, overseen campaign messaging, and steered major PACs aligned with Trump’s agenda. His rapid rise in Trump’s inner circle reflects both his political acumen and unwavering loyalty.

Controversies and Criticism

Despite his close ties with Trump, Gor has not been free of controversy. Reports suggest he was linked to delays in security clearance submissions, even though he personally vetted numerous administration appointees.

He has also been cited in accounts of tensions between Trump and Elon Musk, with some alleging that Gor played a role in the deterioration of that relationship. The New York Post noted his involvement in personnel disputes and political infighting inside Trump’s camp.

Trump’s Trust and Strategic Role

For Trump, however, Gor’s loyalty and efficiency outweigh criticism. “Sergio’s role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential to delivering on the unprecedented Mandate that we received from the American People,” Trump wrote.

Highlighting the importance of India in global geopolitics, Trump added: “For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

What This Means for India-US Relations

If confirmed, Gor will step into a vital diplomatic position at a time when US-India ties remain strategically significant. Washington and New Delhi have expanded cooperation in defense, technology, and trade, but policy shifts under Trump’s leadership often draw global attention for their unpredictability.

As Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, Gor would also play a critical role in shaping America’s approach to the wider region, balancing ties with India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asian republics.

For India, Gor’s appointment signals Trump’s intention to keep close allies in key diplomatic roles—individuals he can trust to push forward his vision of an “America First” foreign policy while deepening ties with one of the world’s fastest-growing democracies.
