New Delhi – We are Water Foundation India (WAWFI) – a corporate social responsibility arm of Roca Bathroom Products Pvt Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC) to train 1,600 plumbers across India, a company release said.
The training is being organised under the initiative Plumbing ki Paathshala, the release said.
The training programme will be held under the aegis of National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) – a Government of India undertaking.
Both Roca and IPSC will work together to provide free skill training for the specific job roles as per National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), the release said.
The plumbers will subsequently be assessed and given Skill India and IPSC Certifications on successful completion of the course.
The initiative is focused on training people 21st century plumbing skills to the people due to the advent of new technologies coming into the sanitation industry.
Under Plumbing ki Paathshala programme, a special attention is being given to women to help them acquire new age skills.
“There is a clear demand for training the plumbing technicians in India with bathroom taking the center stage in homes and the advent of technology; lead products have made it essential to train the technicians,” K.E. Ranganathan, Managing Trustee at WAWFI said during the signing of the MoU.
“We will continue to partner with IPSC to empower more people to lead a healthy dignified life,” he added.
“So far, we have certified more than 1,00,000 technicians with the required plumbing skills. “We are thankful to Roca – WAWFI for supporting us in this initiative,” R.K. Somany, Chairman, IPSC, said.

The lack of professionally trained plumbers is a major drawback for the country’s construction and related sector. This process of skill development will help the beneficiaries improve their workmanship, thus increasing their potential of employment, entrepreneurship and earning.
