JSW Steel launched a Mission against malnutrition with the vision to eliminate malnutrition among children 0-6 years in Bellary district of Karnataka with a reach of over 40,000 children across two blocks.

MUMBAI: JSW Steel Ltd, largest steel maker in India, has been conferred the India CSR Project of the Year Award [Large Impact] [Jury] for its Mission Against Malnutrition (MAM) eliminating malnutrition among children 0-6 years in Bellary district, where the company has production facilities.
Dr. C S Kedar, CEO-JSW Foundation; Dr. Vishwanath Palled – Chief-CSR and Balu H U – Mission Head (Mission against Malnutrition) received the award from Ramdas Athawale, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment at India CSR Leadership Summit held on May 26, 2017 at Mumbai.
Representing the JSW Group, Dr. C S Kedar, CEO – JSW Foundation, Bellary addressed the august gathering and shared CSR vision, mission and commitment of the group.
While addressing, Dr Kedar said, “The project has strong leadership, clear vision and is in the mission mode. It has all the elements of efficiency and scale. The project structure and implementation strategy are of highest order. It shows commitment to action and has all levers to come out with flying colors. It would be an understatement to say that the project is health revolution in the making.”
“It is one of the unique CSR projects that is fighting the issue of malnutrition and bring radical changes in the practice and policy framework in curbing the issue completely. Mission against Malnutrition (MAM) is rendering yeoman service in the project location, more so to the mothers and young children, and it is certainly going to help the larger humankind. It is being implemented with the assistance of a super food, spirulina along with various awareness creation activities.”, he added.

The jury appreciated the process of administering, tracking and validating the intake of Spirulina, an algae based food fortification recognized by World Health Organisation.
