NEW DELHI (India CSR): In many parts of India, access to quality healthcare and education continues to remain uneven, especially in rural and economically weaker communities. While public welfare programs play a central role, corporate social responsibility initiatives have increasingly become an additional support system for many families. Against this backdrop, Ipca Laboratories Limited’s latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure offers insight into how one of India’s major pharmaceutical companies allocated resources toward social development during FY2024-25.

According to Ipca Laboratories’s annual report, Ipca Laboratories spent Rs 20.03 crore on CSR activities during the financial year ended March 31, 2025. The report highlights that the spending exceeded Ipca Laboratories’s statutory CSR obligation for the year. The funds were directed toward several focus areas, including education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, heritage conservation, and rural development.

CSR Obligation and Overall Spending

The annual report states that Ipca Laboratories recorded an average net profit of Rs 901.53 crore over the preceding three financial years. Based on the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013, Ipca Laboratories’s mandatory CSR obligation for FY2024-25 was calculated at Rs 18.03 crore.

However, Ipca Laboratories reported a total CSR expenditure of Rs 20.03 crore during the year. According to the report, this amount included spending on direct projects, contributions made through the Ipca Foundation, and administrative expenses associated with CSR implementation.

The report further highlights that Ipca Laboratories generated an excess CSR spend of around Rs 2 crore during the year, which may be carried forward and adjusted against future CSR obligations as permitted under law.

Education and Skill Development Receive Largest Share

Education and vocational training emerged as the largest area of CSR expenditure during FY2025. According to the annual report, Ipca Laboratories allocated Rs 15.55 crore toward education promotion, vocational training, and skill enhancement initiatives.

A substantial portion of this spending was directed toward educational institutions and welfare organisations. The report highlights that Rs 2 crore was contributed to the Anvi Medical and Educational Foundation in Maharashtra to support educational activities and women empowerment initiatives.

Another allocation of Rs 90 lakh was made through Shree Gorakhsh Shaikshanik Bahuudeshiya Sanstha for projects linked to healthcare and education. In addition, support was extended to organisations working with children who have intellectual disabilities.

Ipca Laboratories also invested in digital education infrastructure. According to the report, over Rs 1 crore was spent on developing free online study materials aimed at supporting students from underserved communities.

These initiatives reflect a broader focus on improving access to education and creating opportunities for skill-based learning.

Healthcare and Medical Support Initiatives

As a pharmaceutical company, healthcare naturally remained one of the major focus areas of Ipca Laboratories’ CSR activities. According to the annual report, Rs 2.23 crore was spent on projects related to healthcare, poverty eradication, and sanitation during FY2025.

One of the major healthcare interventions mentioned in the report was the donation of a CT Scan machine to KHM Hospital in Kandivli, Mumbai. The contribution, valued at Rs 1.20 crore, was made through Shree Kandivali Hitwardak Mandal.

The report highlights that access to advanced diagnostic equipment can improve healthcare outcomes, particularly in hospitals serving middle- and lower-income groups.

In addition, support was extended to welfare organisations and shelter homes. Contributions were also made toward initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access for economically vulnerable sections of society.

Role of Ipca Foundation in CSR Activities

The annual report states that many of Ipca Laboratories’s CSR projects were implemented through the Ipca Foundation, a Section 8 not-for-profit entity established to manage and execute social initiatives.

During FY2024-25, around Rs 7.37 crore was channelled through the foundation for projects across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

The foundation works with local organisations and implementing agencies to carry out projects related to education, rural development, healthcare, and community welfare. According to the report, this structure allows better monitoring and execution of CSR activities at the grassroots level.

Heritage Conservation and Community Infrastructure

One of the notable aspects of Ipca Laboratories’ CSR spending in FY2025 was its investment in heritage conservation projects. According to the annual report, Rs 3.10 crore was allocated toward conservation and restoration activities related to the G. M. Jain Hostel in Mumbai.

The report highlights that preserving heritage structures and community institutions remains an important aspect of cultural sustainability. Such initiatives also contribute to maintaining public infrastructure that serves educational and social purposes.

In addition to heritage-related work, Ipca Laboratories also supported projects linked to rural development and community welfare in different operational regions.

Environmental Sustainability Measures

Environmental sustainability formed another component of Ipca Laboratories’s CSR strategy. According to the annual report, Ipca Laboratories spent Rs 1.02 crore on initiatives related to environmental sustainability, natural resource conservation, and animal welfare.

These projects included activities aimed at environmental protection and improving ecological balance. The report highlights that Ipca Laboratories continues to integrate sustainability goals into its broader social responsibility framework.

As environmental concerns become increasingly important for businesses globally, such initiatives are gradually becoming a regular part of CSR planning across industries.

Geographic Reach of CSR Projects

Ipca Laboratories’s CSR activities during FY2025 were spread across multiple states. According to the annual report, projects were implemented in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim.

The report highlights that Ipca Laboratories follows a mixed implementation approach. Some initiatives are executed directly by the company, while others are implemented through registered trusts, foundations, and partner organisations.

This multi-state presence allowed Ipca Laboratories to support projects in healthcare, education, and rural development across diverse communities.

Administrative Expenses and Governance

The annual report states that Ipca Laboratories spent Rs 36 lakh on administrative overheads related to CSR implementation during FY2025. This amount covered costs associated with project management, monitoring, and compliance.

CSR governance is overseen by Ipca Laboratories’s CSR Committee and Board of Directors. According to the report, the committee reviews project selection, implementation, and impact assessment to ensure alignment with the company’s CSR policy and statutory requirements.

The report also highlights that impact assessments were carried out for selected projects to evaluate their effectiveness and long-term benefits.

Overall CSR Approach and Impact

The CSR spending pattern of Ipca Laboratories during FY2025 indicates a strong emphasis on education and healthcare, which together accounted for the majority of the total expenditure.

According to the annual report, Ipca Laboratories’s initiatives focused largely on improving access to opportunities and essential services for vulnerable communities. Projects linked to educational support, healthcare infrastructure, and social welfare formed the core of the company’s CSR activities.

At the same time, spending on environmental sustainability and heritage conservation reflected a broader approach that goes beyond immediate welfare measures.
