100 mothers in three government hospitals in city, who delivered girl child on March 8th are given away Gifts each worth Rs 1200/- and consists of necessities of a new born child as well instruction, guidelines and information of schemes and support services

INDIACSR News Network

HYDERABAD: Operation Blessing India (OBI), a non-profit, humanitarian organization; embarking on an innovative initiative “The GIFT(Girl Is Family’s Treaure)”. C. Padmini, wife of Deputy Chief Minister launched the Campaign today at a special function organised at Mahindra Satyam Infocity at Mahapur. To mark the occasion she also realeased the balloon into the air. Later she along with T. Rajendra of Mahindra Satyam and Vivian of Operation Blessing India flagged off a GIFT Vehicle.

C.Padmini Wife of Dy Chief MinisterThe GIFT(Girl Is Family’s Treasure) Campaign is an initiative to make the society aware of the status of the girl child, realize the need to save her and ensure that the girls will be given the dignity, liberty and opportunities that are rightfully theirs.

The Vehicle Carrying 100 Gifts each containing necessities for a new born  such as Baby Oil, Powr, Mattress, Pillows, Mosquito Net, Cotton Nappies, Baby Soap, Baby Talk all together ten items costing about Rs 1200/-  will go to pre-cyhosen government hospitals such as Koti Maternity Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Modern Maternity Hospital at Nayapul. All these three are government hospitals. These gifts will be distributed to every Mother of a girl child born on March 8th i.e International Womens Day.

The mothers will also receive complete instructions, guidelines and information of all the schemes, support services and facilities that are being offered to the girl child/parents of girl child by the Government.

According to Mr.Vivian Isaac the objective of this campaign is to raise consciousness of the society towards the girl child so that she can be valued and respected. Speaking on the occasion Padmini congratulated Operation Blessings India and Mahindra Satyam and other organizations for organizing such a function.  Urged more organizations to take up such programmes to save girl child.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rajesh T of Mahindra Satyam said that they are proud to be associated with the GIFT Campaign. We support the girl child. We are willing to extend our support to initiatives such as this through our CSR arms. As an ICT company, we have also developed a mobile application called ‘Fightback’ to help women who find themselves in a panic situation Said, AS Murty, CTO, Mahindra Satyam

It is disheartening to note that some diagnostic centers with ultrasound scanners which detect the gender of the child are operating widely; they advertise to lure gullible women to spend a small amount on foetal sex determination, eventually leading to sex-selective abortion  Once the women know they are pregnant with a girl child, they go for an illegal abortion to avoid spending lakhs of rupees in future on the girl child. This sex selection has become a big racket in the past and is continuing even today in its ugliest form.  Don’t these girls have a right to live in this country? Why should they be discriminated? Their discrimination begins before birth in the form of female foeticide and continues through the girl’s lifetime.

According to UNICEF out of 8000 abortions done in one city in India, 7,999 of them were girls.  Girls are killed in various ways; by mothers consuming dry un-hulled rice, poisonous fertilizer while some are being smothered with a towel or strangled etc.  This practice is absolutely evil and brutal; how can this be allowed in a civilized society like ours? The objective of this initiative is to help deliver the girl child from these evil practices and misconceptions.  Efforts must be made towards ensuring that the girls are born, loved and nurtured in order to grow up and become empowered citizens of this country with equal rights and opportunities as their brothers.

Operation Blessing India (OBI) serves the underprivileged through core programs of medical aid, hunger relief, orphan care, free education, disaster relief, water wells and community development; breaking the cycle of suffering, and improving the standard of living in all areas. This GIFT Campaign of OBI will have various activities and programs that will continue into the future to educate and bring about the awareness and the importance /uniqueness of the ‘Girl Child’. Come, join us and help us celebrate the birth of a girl child and tell the world to cherish her for she is indeed a family’s treasure!
