Alyssa Carson has pursued her dream of becoming one of the first humans on Mars since she was a toddler, dedicating her life to space exploration.

Alyssa Carson, a 24-year-old astrobiologist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has captured global attention with her audacious goal of becoming one of the first humans to step foot on Mars. Known by her social media handle “NASABlueberry,” Carson’s passion for space exploration ignited at age three while watching a cartoon episode of The Backyardigans featuring a Mars mission. That spark has fueled an extraordinary journey, positioning her as a leading candidate for NASA’s anticipated human mission to Mars in the early 2030s. Carson’s preparation is nothing short of remarkable. She is the only individual to have attended every NASA space camp worldwide, including those in the United States, Canada, and Turkey. Her dedication led her to complete the NASA Passport Program, visiting all 14 NASA Visitor Centers across the U.S. Her training regimen is rigorous, encompassing water survival courses, microgravity flight simulations, and G-force endurance tests to prepare for the physical demands of space travel. At just 15, Carson became the youngest graduate of the Advanced PoSSUM Space Academy, earning certifications for suborbital research missions, a testament to her commitment and capability. Beyond her technical training, Carson is a fervent advocate for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, particularly for young women. Through her social media presence, with over 500,000 Instagram followers, she shares glimpses of her journey—from underwater training that mimics microgravity environments to her research on Martian microbes as part of her astrobiology studies. Carson’s mission extends beyond personal achievement; she aims to inspire the next generation, emphasizing resilience, curiosity, and the importance of diverse skill sets in pursuing ambitious dreams. Her talks and outreach programs encourage girls to break barriers in male-dominated fields, making her a role model for aspiring scientists and explorers. Academically, Carson excels. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Astrobiology from the Florida Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing a Ph.D., focusing on the potential for life on Mars. Her research delves into the possibility of microbial life in Martian soil, aligning with NASA’s goals for planetary exploration. While NASA has clarified that Carson is not yet an official astronaut, her unique resume—combining hands-on training, academic rigor, and public advocacy—makes her a standout candidate for the Mars mission.

Carson’s journey is a beacon of hope and determination. She embodies the spirit of exploration, proving that with unwavering dedication, even the most distant dreams can become reality. As humanity prepares to take its next steps into the cosmos, Alyssa Carson stands ready to lead the way, inspiring millions to reach for the stars.
