GUWAHATI: Sturdflex, the Waterproofing Solutions & Construction Chemicals brand from the house of Shyam Steel Industries Ltd., today announced its formal entry into the North-Eastern market, with Assam as one of its key markets in the region. One of West Bengal’s leading companies in the waterproofing and construction chemicals segment, Sturdflex enters the region with an extensive portfolio addressing diverse waterproofing and construction requirements for homes and buildings across the North-East.

The entry marks an important step in Sturdflex’s expansion beyond its existing markets, with the brand looking to build a strong presence across Assam and subsequently other important markets in the region. The North-East represents an important market for construction, with its distinctive climatic and geographical conditions creating specific requirements around moisture protection, waterproofing and construction quality.

A Portfolio Built Around Diverse Construction Needs

Sturdflex offers a wide range of specialised products tailored to address different challenges, including water ingress and dampness, heat-related concerns, wall cracks and other major construction issues. Rather than approaching waterproofing as a one-size-fits-all requirement, the brand focuses on identifying the specific challenge and recommending the appropriate solution.

The portfolio is designed to address waterproofing and construction requirements across different stages and applications in a building. This includes solutions for areas vulnerable to water ingress and dampness as well as products addressing other common construction concerns. The objective is to provide the construction community with access to specialised solutions suited to different requirements.

As part of its expansion, Sturdflex is strengthening its distribution network across Assam and other key North-Eastern markets through dealers, contractors, applicators, builders and construction professionals. The brand aims to build a strong ecosystem of partners who can make its products and expertise more accessible to home builders and the wider construction community.

Beyond Products: Bringing Technical Expertise to the Site

A key aspect of Sturdflex’s approach is its focus on technical support alongside its product portfolio. The brand’s offering extends beyond simply making waterproofing and construction chemical products available in the market.

Through on-site technical assistance, Sturdflex aims to understand the specific requirements of a construction site and recommend suitable solutions. This involves assessing the nature of the requirement and helping identify the right product or combination of products for the application.

The approach is intended to make waterproofing more solution-oriented, while helping home builders and construction professionals make informed decisions based on their specific requirements.

Sturdflex is also undertaking contractor education initiatives across its markets. Contractors, applicators and builders play an important role in the actual application of construction chemical and waterproofing solutions. Through education and awareness initiatives, the brand aims to promote correct application practices, effective waterproofing and improved construction quality.

This combination of product solutions, technical assistance and application awareness forms an important part of Sturdflex’s approach as it establishes itself in the North-East.

Addressing the Region’s Waterproofing Requirements

With the North-East experiencing high humidity and intense monsoon conditions, moisture protection remains an important consideration for homes and buildings. Prolonged exposure to moisture can create challenges related to dampness, water ingress and other construction concerns, making appropriate waterproofing an important part of building protection.

Sturdflex aims to address these needs through its specialised product portfolio, technical support and focus on better construction practices. The brand’s presence in the region is therefore intended not merely to expand product availability, but also to bring greater awareness of the importance of selecting appropriate waterproofing solutions and applying them correctly.

By working closely with dealers, contractors, applicators, builders and construction professionals, Sturdflex intends to develop a stronger understanding of local construction requirements and create greater access to specialised waterproofing expertise.

Backed by the Legacy of Shyam Steel

Sturdflex is backed by Shyam Steel Industries Ltd., a company with a longstanding association with the construction ecosystem. For over 70 years, Shyam Steel has been associated with quality steel and TMT rebars that have contributed to homes, landmark projects and iconic structures across India.

The launch of Sturdflex represents an extension of this association into the specialised domain of Waterproofing Solutions & Construction Chemicals. While Sturdflex operates as a specialised brand focused on waterproofing and construction chemicals, it draws upon the experience and credibility of its parent company within the broader construction ecosystem.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Govind Beriwal, Director, Shyam Steel Industries Ltd., said: “For over 70 years, Shyam Steel has been associated with quality steel and TMT rebars that have contributed to homes, landmark projects and iconic structures across India. Sturdflex extends this longstanding association with the construction ecosystem into the specialised domain of Waterproofing Solutions & Construction Chemicals. Our endeavour is to establish Sturdflex as a trusted brand, backed by a strong product portfolio, technical expertise and a clear understanding of the needs of the construction industry. The North-East is an important strategic market for us, and we are committed to building a strong presence across the region.”

Building a Stronger Construction Ecosystem

Sturdflex’s expansion into the North-East is also aimed at creating stronger engagement with the people who are directly involved in building and maintaining homes and structures. Dealers, contractors, applicators and builders form an important part of the construction ecosystem, and the brand intends to work closely with them as it expands its presence.

The focus on contractor education is particularly intended to strengthen awareness around application practices. Correct application is an important part of achieving the intended performance from waterproofing and construction chemical solutions. By engaging with the professionals responsible for application on the ground, Sturdflex aims to contribute towards improved construction practices and greater awareness within the market.

Mr. Gourav Beriwal, Director, Shyam Steel Industries Ltd., said: “Every waterproofing challenge is different and requires the right solution. Sturdflex offers specialised products for concerns ranging from water ingress and dampness to heat-related issues, wall cracks and more. Through on-site technical assistance and contractor education, we are also working to strengthen application practices and promote greater awareness of quality waterproofing and construction. As we enter the North-East, our aim is to make the right solutions and expertise more accessible to the construction community.”

Expanding Across the North-East

With Assam serving as one of its key markets, Sturdflex plans to progressively strengthen its presence across the North-Eastern region. The company’s expansion will be supported by its growing network of channel partners and its engagement with contractors, applicators, builders and other construction professionals.

The brand sees its North-East expansion as a long-term market-building exercise, with the objective of establishing Sturdflex as a trusted name in Waterproofing Solutions & Construction Chemicals.

Through a combination of a specialised portfolio, technical assistance, contractor education and a growing local ecosystem, Sturdflex aims to make the right waterproofing solutions and expertise more accessible to home builders and the construction community across the region.
