In partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Ayang Trust, the initiative will provide hot meals and essential Rahat kits to affected families across Assam
MUMBAI (India CSR): SBI General Insurance, one of India’s leading general insurance companies, has stepped forward with a focused relief and recovery initiative for flood-affected communities across Assam, bringing together immediate food assistance and essential relief supplies. Through its partnerships with The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Ayang Trust, the initiative will support affected families, including vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, children, farmers and daily-wage earners, as they navigate the immediate impact of the floods and begin their recovery.
As part of the initiative, The Akshaya Patra Foundation has facilitated the distribution of fresh, hygienic and nutritious hot meals in Jorhat district. Through this effort, SBI General Insurance aims to provide immediate hunger relief and ensure access to essential nutrition for families affected by the floods.

In parallel, through its collaboration with Ayang Trust, the company has supported the distribution of essential relief kits to 1,000 flood-affected households across Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo districts of Assam. The kits, designed in coordination with the respective District Administrations, include bed sheets, blankets, plastic buckets with mugs, sanitary pads and essential utensils, addressing immediate household, hygiene and shelter needs. The distribution will cover 300 households in Jorhat, 400 in Sivasagar and 300 in Charaideo, reaching approximately 4,000 individuals.
Commenting on the initiative, Naveen Chandra Jha, MD and CEO, SBI General Insurance, said, “When communities are facing the aftermath of a natural disaster, standing by them is not just about providing relief, it is about being present when people need support the most. We, at SBI General, believe that we have a responsibility to stand with the communities around us during such difficult times and extend meaningful support to those who need it most. Through our collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Ayang Trust, we want to help affected families access essential food and supplies, while giving them a sense that they are not alone as they begin to rebuild their lives.”
Adding to this, Rathin Lahiri, Head – Marketing & CSR, SBI General Insurance, said, “In the face of a devastating crisis, the strength of a community lies in how we come together for those who are most vulnerable. For families affected by the floods, the immediate need is often for the most basic things – a hot meal, clean clothing, essential supplies and a safe way to get through the days ahead. We believe it is our role to extend timely and meaningful support that is responsive to the needs on the ground, and to do our part in helping affected families navigate this challenging period and move towards recovery.”

The initiative brings together immediate food assistance and essential relief material to support flood-affected families across the identified locations in Assam. Through its collaboration with experienced implementation partners, SBI General Insurance aims to ensure that assistance reaches communities facing disruption to their daily lives and access to basic necessities.
