New Web & App-based multimodal voice AI technology Vanira completes customer identity checks in under 90 seconds, promising to recover onboarding conversion rates

Customer identity verification has long been one of the most consequential friction points in financial services onboarding. New data from across the fintech sector suggests that upwards of 40% of users who begin a Know Your Customer process fail to complete it — a conversion loss that costs digital banks and lending platforms hundreds of millions in foregone revenue each year.

A new class of multimodal voice AI platforms is now targeting that gap directly, using live voice and camera AI delivered over real-time browser and In-App sessions to compress the verification process to under two minutes — without compromising compliance standards.

Vanira, an AI infrastructure company based in Bengaluru, has developed a KYC verification layer that operates entirely within a live Secure session, combining multimodal voice AI-guided instruction, real-time document analysis, biometric matching, and consent capture in a single, continuous interaction.

The Structural Problem with Existing KYC

Current KYC workflows were designed for compliance, not conversion. The dominant model — document upload, asynchronous review, liveness check as a separate step — introduces multiple points of drop-off, each of which represents a customer the platform may never recover.

Users abandon during file upload due to format or size errors. Others fail liveness checks because of poor lighting or technical confusion. Many simply disengage during the wait period between submission and approval, particularly when a competing platform offers a faster alternative.

Regulatory requirements mandate verification. They do not mandate the multi-step, high-friction process that most platforms have built around them.

The Vanira Approach

Vanira‘s platform replaces the upload-and-wait model with a guided, real-time multimodal voice AI conversation. When a user begins onboarding, a multimodal voice AI agent opens a live session and walks them through each verification step in natural language.

The user is guided to present their identity document to the camera. Vanira’s multimodal voice AI layer parses and validates the document in real time — eliminating the upload step entirely. A liveness check is completed within the same session. Biometric matching between the document photograph and the live camera feed occurs automatically.

Verbal consent is captured as part of the spoken interaction and logged as a verified, timestamped event — creating a compliance record that satisfies audit requirements without additional documentation.

The entire process, from session open to verification complete, takes under 90 seconds in standard operating conditions.

Commercial Impact

The financial case for faster KYC completion is well established. A fintech platform processing 10,000 new onboarding attempts per month and currently converting at 60% would, at an 80% conversion rate, activate an additional 2,000 customers per month — without any change to its acquisition spend.

Across a 12-month period, the compounding effect on loan origination volumes, deposit balances, or transaction revenue is substantial. For platforms in competitive acquisition environments where cost per lead is high, improving post-acquisition conversion is often the highest-return lever available.

Regulatory Compatibility

A persistent concern around AI-driven KYC has been the question of auditability. Vanira’s multimodal voice AI design addresses this directly: every session produces a complete, timestamped record of the verification interaction, including document capture, biometric match score, liveness confirmation, and consent acknowledgement.

The output is not a binary pass-fail signal but a structured, auditable record of the full verification event — one designed to satisfy the evidentiary requirements of financial regulators across markets.

As Indian and global regulators continue to formalise standards around AI-assisted verification, platforms with complete session-level audit trails are increasingly positioned to move faster through compliance review than those relying on legacy document submission workflows.
