The three-year undergraduate programme aims to build future-ready professionals in CSR, ESG and sustainable development

RAIPUR (India CSR): Admissions are now open for the BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG (3 Years – 6 Semesters) at Rungta International Skills University (RISU), Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, offering students a unique opportunity to build a career at the intersection of business, social impact and sustainability.

The programme is open to students from all streams—Science, Commerce, and Arts—who have completed their 10+2, making it an inclusive pathway for young aspirants interested in responsible business and development sectors.

The annual fee for the course is Rs. 80,000.

A Course Aligned with India’s Growing CSR and ESG Landscape

The BBA programme has been designed in response to the rapidly expanding CSR and ESG ecosystem in India. With CSR being a legal mandate under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, and increasing emphasis on sustainability reporting and ESG compliance, the demand for skilled professionals is growing steadily.

The course offers a strong foundation in key areas such as:

  • CSR laws and regulatory frameworks
  • ESG reporting and compliance (BRSR, GRI, SDGs)
  • Sustainability principles and climate studies
  • Development practices and social sector engagement

Blending Theory with Practical Exposure

The programme is structured to provide both conceptual clarity and hands-on learning. Students will be exposed to:

  • Field immersion and live projects
  • Internships with corporates and NGOs
  • Sustainability reporting workshops
  • Industry interactions with CSR leaders and ESG practitioners

This approach ensures that graduates are not only academically trained but also industry-ready.

India CSR

Designed for Future CSR and Sustainability Leaders

The course is ideal for students who:

  • Want to work in the CSR departments of companies
  • Aspire to become ESG analysts or sustainability professionals
  • Are passionate about social change and community development
  • Seek careers in NGOs, consulting firms, and development organisations

Part of a Larger Academic Initiative

The BBA programme is part of a broader academic initiative by Rungta International Skills University, developed in academic partnership with IndiaCSR, to create structured education pathways in CSR, Sustainability and ESG.

The programmes are delivered under the School of Sustainable Development, ESG and CSR, with a focus on interdisciplinary learning across CSR law, ESG frameworks, sustainability science and development practice.

India CSR

A Timely Opportunity for Students

With India witnessing a significant rise in CSR spending—touching Rs. 34,909 crore in FY24—and increasing global focus on ESG standards, the sector offers vast career opportunities. The BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG provides an early entry point for students to build expertise in one of the fastest-growing domains in the country.

Roles within the CSR Ecosystem

The CSR sphere is so varied and includes corporate foundations, NGOs, consulting firms, research institutions, and government agencies. The most notable ones are:

  • CSR Executive / Manager: He or she leads the CSR strategy of a company, he/she manages budgets, he/she finds an NGO partner, he/she controls the compliance with Schedule VII of the Companies Act, and he/she measures the impact of the programme.
  • ESG Analyst / Sustainability Officer: analyzes the environmental and social performance of a company, prepares BRSR and GRI-compliant sustainability reports, and provides advice on ESG reporting to investors and regulators.
  • Impact Assessment Consultant: Designs and undertakes Social Return on Investment (SROI) research and social audits to quantify the actual effect of CSR programmes.
  • CSR Compliance Officer: Oversees the CSR compliance of a company, under the legal provisions of Section 135 and the CSR Rules, such as the appropriateness of reporting to the CSR Committee and board.
  • NGO Programme Manager: Works on the ground to implement CSR-funded initiatives in areas such as education, healthcare, water, and rural livelihoods.
  • Sustainability Reporting Associate: Prepares the company sustainability disclosure, handles data that is to be filed under SEBI regulations under BRSR and communicates the performance of the company in terms of ESG to the stakeholders.

Formal Education in CSR: A Growing Necessity

Until recently, a majority of CSR professionals found their way into the industry through other related professions such as social work, business administration, law or environmental science and learned on the job. That is changing. The growing CSR requirement in India, the emergence of the need to report on environmental, social and governance issues and the governmental pledge to be Net Zero by 2070 have resulted in a well-defined and pressing need to be able to educate in the field in a structured, formalized way.

With this in mind, Rungta International Skills University (RISU), Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, in academic partnership with IndiaCSR, one of the most successful knowledge platforms of CSR and sustainability in the country, has introduced the first set of dedicated academic programmes in CSR, Sustainability and ESG. This is provided as courses under the School of Sustainable Development, ESG and CSR, and they are structured based on four interdisciplinary pillars: CSR Law, ESG Frameworks, Sustainability Science, and Development Practice.

  • The launch of BBA CSR, Sustainability and ESG marks an important step towards building skilled human resources for the emerging sustainability, responsible business and social impact sector in India.

The opening of admissions for this programme reflects a shift in higher education towards purpose-driven careers. By combining business education with sustainability and social responsibility, India CSR and Rungta International Skills University are creating a new generation of professionals equipped to lead India’s responsible business future.
