According to the announcement, MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra is made to make it possible for district administrations to form neighbourhood committees for “prevention, prohibition and redressal of any kind of harassment of women at the job.”

The MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra solution has been introduced by the Vi Foundation, Vodafone Idea’s CSR division, in collaboration with the Connecting for Good initiative of the NASSCOM Foundation and the Martha Farrell Foundation. The software was created to safeguard the safety of women employed in India’s informal sector and is an outgrowth of the MyAmbar app, which targets gender-based violence. Almost 90% of working women in India are employed in the unorganised sector, according to the Vi Foundation. The platform intends to make it possible for district administrations to organise neighbourhood committees for the prevention, banning, and resolution of workplace harassment and to give women access to legal assistance, information, and support.

Gender Equality in Communities and Informal Organizations

The introduction of MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra is regarded by the Vi Foundation as a significant step in advancing gender equality in informal organisations and communities. The website strives to establish an environment where women who have been harassed can get timely justice, support, and information. It will make it possible for women who work in informal employment to complain to local committees and gain access to a wealth of knowledge on laws and how to avoid harassment at work, among other things. The multilingual website, which is available in both English and Hindi, also aims to give women working in the unorganised sector a secure atmosphere where they may flourish and realise their full potential.

Empowering Women in the Informal Sector

The Vi Foundation has made tremendous progress in empowering women working in the unorganised sector. One of several initiatives aiming at improving gender equality and justice is the introduction of MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra. Women in the informal sector are susceptible to workplace harassment, according to a Human Rights Watch report that Vi Foundation referenced, and there is a need for redressal systems to safeguard their safety. To protect women from workplace harassment, the platform seeks to link up all stakeholders, including regional committees.

NASSCOM Foundation and MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra

The Connecting for Good programme of the NASSCOM Foundation is a joint initiative designed to use technology to encourage social change. By delivering technological solutions for social problems, the initiative seeks to create a culture of social innovation in the technology sector. The MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra is a testament to the NASSCOM Foundation’s dedication to leveraging technology to advance social change and enhance the lives of women working in the informal sector.

Martha Farrell Foundation and MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra

The Martha Farrell Foundation is a nonprofit that supports women’s empowerment and gender equality in India. To assist in the strengthening of the redress mechanisms under the 2013 Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, the Foundation has worked closely with women informal workers, neighbourhood committees, and district administrations. The Foundation worked closely with the Foundation on the MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra solution. The Foundation’s participation in the introduction of the MyAmbar Suraksha Chakra demonstrates its dedication to advancing justice and equality for women in India’s unorganised sector.
