UK-based entrepreneur and philanthropist Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia committed an amount of Rs. 1 Crore to Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF) on the eve of International Literacy Day for promoting education, safety, the health of girls and stepping up their protection against abuse.
The contribution has been committed to bolstering KCSF’s ongoing Justice for Every Child Campaign for providing legal and mental health support to child victims of sexual abuse and rape, and their families. Launched in March this year, the campaign aims to provide support in 5,000 strategic cases in 100 Fast Track Courts in 100 districts across the country.
Ahluwalia, on Tuesday evening, met Nobel Peace Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi at Mukti Ashram, a shelter home for children in need of care and protection, founded by Mr. Satyarthi.
He interacted with several girls being supported by KSCF under its various projects for child empowerment. Inspired and moved by their stories, Ahluwalia announced a donation.
Among those he met with was Tara Banjara, the first girl from her Banjara Community in Alwar who passed Class 12 with flying colours. She now aims to become a police officer.
Lalita Duhariya, another girl from a backward community of Rajasthan, spoke about how she passed Class 12 with 96% marks and shared her dream of becoming a doctor.
“For a long time I have been supporting different social causes in India and now I am taking a step towards supporting the cause of safety and protection of children. The work and initiatives of Mr. Satyarthi are inspiring and I am willing to support his mission to the best of my ability. This is just a token amount of Rs. 1 Crore I am contributing now, I am delighted to continue supporting this great cause in the future,” Ahluwalia said.
Founder and Chairman of Dominvs Group, a family-owned real estate, hospitality and investment company with more than £750m under management, including a portfolio of hotels across the UK, Ahluwalia is known for his generosity.
In 2018, he provided a significant donation to build a brand new school in Faridabad to provide free schooling to children who could not access primary education elsewhere. He has also supported important charities such as Khalsa Aid, the Jallianwala B. Massacre Memorial, and Nishkam SWAT, and currently serves as Patron for India for the Migration Museum of London.
Ahluwalia is looking forward to his long-awaited ‘Indian homecoming’ as he ramps up his business and philanthropic work in his home country, and winds down his remaining responsibilities in the UK.
