Vital Strategies, a leading global health organization that partners with governments to design solutions to some of the world’s most challenging health problems, has appointed L M Singh as Managing Director, India, and Global Head, Partnerships and Innovative Finance. As Managing Director, Singh will work to bring together public and private sectors to collaborate and develop novel models of financing mechanisms to support solutions to address key public health challenges.

José Luis Castro, President and CEO, Vital Strategies, stated, “Nowhere in the world has greater potential than India to improve the lives of so many through strengthening public health systems. Vital Strategies is fortunate to have L M Singh lead our efforts there as the Managing Director, India. Singh brings diverse and unique capabilities to Vital Strategies’ efforts to promote sustainable development, including a robust understanding of India’s health ecosystem, innovative finance and policy reform, and a deep commitment to partnership.

Vital Strategies also looks forward to tapping this deep experience to enrich our global work towards equitable and effective public health systems across the world.”

L M Singh, Managing Director, Vital Strategies, India said, “The pandemic brought new urgency to the work of strengthening public health systems, making them more robust, resilient and accessible. As a trusted partner of governments across the globe, Vital Strategies is in a strong position to accelerate this essential work, bringing an arsenal of expertise in data, policy, strategic communication, and capacity building.

In India, we are led by strong relationships and shared vision with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and other ministries to strengthen public health systems holistically and address the leading causes of death, disease and injury. In my role at Vital Strategies, I look forward to our continued collaboration with the government and other stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to drive scalable and sustainable solutions to issues like urban health, tobacco use and non-communicable disease prevention.”

In his new role as Managing Director India and Global Head, Partnerships and Innovative Finance, Singh will oversee the financial, human, and operational functions of the India office, provide thought leadership, ensure financial viability and overall sustainability of the organization, and co-create innovative solutions to India’s public health challenges. He will also focus on developing and sustaining partnerships with the government, the private sector, and the public sector to advance the mission of Vital Strategies.

Vital Strategies’ vision is a world where everyone is protected by equitable and effective public health systems. Founded in 2004, the organization partners with governments, communities, and organizations to design and implement evidence-based, locally driven policies and practices to advance public health.

The India office’s programmatic efforts include: supporting the adoption of lifesaving tobacco control policies and mounting of evidence-based tobacco control campaigns; improving road safety across India; and partnering with city governments to preventing non-communicable diseases and injuries through the Partnership for Healthy Cities.
