RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH (India CSR): A horrific accident at the Hindustan Coils Limited (HCL) plant in the Siltara industrial area of Raipur claimed the lives of two crane operators late Saturday night. The incident occurred when a crane collapsed during operations, trapping the workers and exposing them to molten lava, which resulted in fatal injuries.

1 Incident Details

The tragic accident unfolded in the Siltara industrial area, a hub of industrial activity near Chhattisgarh’s capital, Raipur. The victims, identified as Jitendra Srivas and Sonu Rai, were crushed under the fallen crane and scalded by the molten lava.

According to police sources, the crane collapse happened during routine work at the HCL plant, which specializes in manufacturing iron plates, angles, and blades. “This is a devastating incident. We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and are investigating the matter thoroughly,” said a senior police officer from the Siltara police station.

2 Compensation and Support for Victims’ Families

The factory management quickly announced compensation to mitigate tensions following the incident. They promised:

  • Rs 21 lakh compensation for each victim’s family.
  • An additional Rs 1 lakh in cash assistance.
  • Employment for one family member of each deceased worker.

After these announcements, the protests by family members and local residents subsided. “We demand justice for our loved ones. The compensation is a small relief, but we need better safety measures to prevent such tragedies,” said a grieving relative.
