ALWAR. Rajasthan (India CSR): TBZ – The Original and Sightsavers India have partnered to expand inclusive education opportunities for 95 children with visual impairment studying in government schools in Alwar district, Rajasthan. The eight-month intervention will provide assistive devices, accessible learning resources, Braille training, ICT-enabled support and individualised educational inputs to help children with blindness and low vision participate more effectively in school.
Assistive Learning Support
The initiative will build on Sightsavers India’s ongoing Inclusive Education Programme in Alwar. It will provide children with learning support tailored to their needs, including low-vision devices, accessible materials and technology-enabled learning. The project will also strengthen the Plus Curriculum, which gives children with visual impairment additional skills needed to access classroom instruction, learning materials and school activities with greater confidence.
ICT-based learning and assistive technology will complement Braille instruction and other skill-enhancement interventions. By combining these inputs with individualised educational support, the programme seeks to reduce barriers that can limit meaningful participation in mainstream education. The children enrolled in the programme are expected to receive support that is relevant not only to academic progress but also to their growing independence.
Skills For Independence
The partnership also places emphasis on the people who support children beyond the classroom. Nine Social Animators, alongside parents and family members, will receive training to help children with visual impairment learn, participate and make informed choices in their day-to-day lives. Engagement with families and communities is intended to ensure that encouragement and support continue after a child leaves school each day.
The project will support fresher and refresher training through the Block Resource Centre and work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen local capacity. RN Mohanty, CEO of Sightsavers India, said the organisation works with government education systems, families and communities to help create an environment in which children with visual impairment can thrive. He said TBZ’s support would help extend critical assistive technology, learning resources and skill development to more children in Alwar.
Families And Systems
Binaisha Zaveri, Whole-time Director of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Limited, said every child should be able to learn in the same classroom as their friends, while children with visual impairment need the right tools and support to do so. She noted that Sightsavers India’s approach trains parents and Social Animators and works through the local school system, helping support remain with children after the project ends.

TBZ, which has a more than 160-year jewellery retail legacy, operates 37 showrooms across 28 Indian cities. Through this partnership, the two organisations aim to demonstrate how corporate participation can strengthen long-term, inclusive learning opportunities. The programme is designed to strengthen systems that enable children to learn with dignity, confidence and equal opportunity.
