HYDERABAD (India CSR): Tata Trusts CEO Siddharth Sharma has highlighted the organisation’s contribution to nation-building through institution creation, accessible healthcare and community-focused development initiatives across India. Addressing Indian Police Service Officer Trainees of the 77th Regular Recruit batch at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, Sharma outlined the Trusts’ long-standing approach to creating institutions that support national progress.
He cited landmark institutions such as Tata Memorial Hospital, the Indian Institute of Science and the National Centre for the Performing Arts as examples of this legacy. The recent grant to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore for establishing a world-class undergraduate university carries this institutional vision forward, he said.
Focus on Affordable Healthcare
Sharma emphasised the need to improve access to quality healthcare at affordable rates. He referred to the Distributed Cancer Care Model in Assam and the development of multi-specialty hospitals across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. These initiatives are designed to take specialised medical services closer to underserved communities while reducing geographical and financial barriers to treatment.
Strengthening Community Resilience
The Tata Trusts’ development programmes also focus on rural livelihoods, education, skilling, water, sanitation and stronger public healthcare systems. Sharma underlined the importance of grassroots engagement in creating sustainable social impact. He said the Trusts work closely with local organisations and communities to understand their challenges, priorities and aspirations.
