Swami Vivekananda Jayanti 2024: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, one of the most influential spiritual leaders and thinkers of India. It is celebrated on January 12 every year, and is also observed as National Youth Day in India. Definition of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is the commemoration of the birth of Swami Vivekananda, who was born as Narendranath Datta in Kolkata on January 12, 1863. He was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a mystic and saint who taught him the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, which emphasizes the oneness of all beings. Swami Vivekananda became a monk and travelled across India and abroad, spreading the message of Hinduism and its universal values of tolerance, acceptance, and spiritual realization.

Who was Swami Vivekananda?

Swami Vivekananda was born Narendranath Datta in Kolkata, India, in 1863. He was a brilliant student and showed an early interest in spirituality. After graduating from the University of Calcutta, he met Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a Hindu mystic who had a profound influence on his life. Following Sri Ramakrishna’s death in 1886, Vivekananda renounced worldly life and became a wandering monk.

Characteristics of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is characterized by various activities and events that celebrate the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. Some of the common characteristics of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti are:

  • Cultural programs: Many schools, colleges, and institutions organize cultural programs such as music, dance, drama, and recitation of Vivekananda’s works, to showcase his artistic and literary talents.
