Annual report reveals how Strides Pharma Science Limited exceeded CSR mandate and impacted over 11,000 lives across India.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Strides Pharma Science Limited’s CSR efforts in 2025 reflect a growing focus on community development alongside business growth. According to the company’s annual report, the pharmaceutical firm increased its social spending and expanded its reach across key areas such as education, healthcare and skill development. The company reported a total CSR expenditure of Rs 5.52 crore for the financial year, which is significantly higher than its mandatory requirement under the law. This indicates a voluntary and proactive approach to social responsibility rather than a compliance-driven one. The report highlights that these initiatives directly impacted more than 11,000 people, especially in underserved communities. By supporting projects like modernising government schools, providing primary healthcare services and offering vocational training, Strides Pharma is working to address basic social challenges. The introduction sets the tone for understanding how the company is aligning its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy with long-term community needs and measurable outcomes.

CSR Spending Crosses Statutory Requirement

As per regulatory norms under the Companies Act, companies are required to spend at least 2% of their average net profits on CSR activities. For Strides Pharma Science Limited, this obligation for FY2025 stood at a relatively modest level.

However, the annual report states that Strides Pharma Science went well beyond this requirement, spending a total of Rs 5,52,01,444 during the year. This resulted in a substantial excess spend running into several crores, showing a voluntary commitment rather than a compliance-driven approach.

The report highlights that CSR activities are implemented primarily through the Strides Foundation, which serves as Strides Pharma Science Limited’s social arm. The foundation focuses on long-term development goals rather than short-term interventions.

Education Emerges as the Largest Focus Area

A major share of the CSR budget in 2025 was directed towards education initiatives. According to the annual report, the largest single project was the Vidyadhama–Strides Model Government School, which received around Rs 4.49 crore in funding.

Located in Haragadde near Bengaluru, the project aims to transform a government school into a modern learning space. The report notes that the school infrastructure has been upgraded with advanced facilities such as science laboratories, computer labs, and interactive learning environments.

In addition, the project includes robotics and space labs, which are rarely available in public schools. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between private and government education systems, especially in rural areas.

The annual report states that more than 400 students are expected to benefit directly from this upgraded learning ecosystem once fully operational.

Leadership and Learning Support Programmes

Apart from infrastructure, Strides Pharma Science has also invested in improving the quality of education. The Leadership Adoption Programme for Schools (LeAPS) received funding of approximately Rs 19.57 lakh during the year.

According to the report, this programme supports students in government schools by providing additional academic assistance, mentoring and life skills training. Around 600 students are currently part of this initiative.

The report highlights that LeAPS is aimed at building confidence and leadership skills among children, going beyond textbook learning. It also includes teacher support and structured engagement to improve overall learning outcomes.

Healthcare Initiatives Reach Thousands

Healthcare remained another key pillar of Strides Pharma’s CSR efforts in 2025. The annual report states that around Rs 40 lakh was spent on health and hygiene programmes, primarily through the Arogyadhama initiative.

Arogyadhama operates as a healthcare centre that provides both preventive and curative services to underserved populations. During the year, the centre treated over 10,000 patients, according to the report.

The report also highlights that the centre achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, indicating adherence to quality standards in service delivery. In addition, a vision care unit was introduced to address eye health issues among rural populations.

Screening programmes were also conducted for diseases such as tuberculosis, with several individuals identified and placed under treatment. The initiative reflects a focus on early detection and community-level healthcare access.

Support for Vulnerable Groups

In addition to large-scale programmes, Strides Pharma Science also supported smaller community initiatives. The report notes that funding was provided to organisations such as Siva Sakthi Homes, which work with vulnerable sections of society.

Though the allocation for such initiatives was relatively smaller, the report highlights their importance in reaching specific groups that may not be covered under broader programmes.

Skill Development and Employability Programmes

Strides Pharma has also continued its efforts to improve employability among youth. According to the annual report, vocational training programmes received targeted funding during the year.

One such initiative is the SVRCC vocational training programme in Puducherry, which received around Rs 16 lakh. The programme focuses on providing skill-based education to youth from fishing communities.

Another key initiative is the BVOC programme conducted in partnership with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The report states that around Rs 14.60 lakh was spent on this programme, which combines academic learning with practical training in the pharmaceutical sector.

Participants in the programme gain hands-on experience while working towards a formal degree, improving their chances of employment in the industry.

Focus on Measurable Impact

The annual report highlights that Strides Pharma Science has taken steps to measure the effectiveness of its CSR initiatives. A third-party impact assessment was conducted for selected programmes to evaluate outcomes and long-term sustainability.

The assessment framework considered factors such as relevance, effectiveness and community benefit. According to the report, the programmes received a high overall rating, indicating positive results on the ground.

Strides Pharma Science also spent funds specifically on conducting these assessments, reflecting a focus on transparency and accountability.

Governance and Oversight

CSR activities at Strides Pharma are overseen by a dedicated CSR Committee of the Board. The report states that the committee ensures proper planning, execution and monitoring of all initiatives.

This governance structure is aimed at ensuring that funds are used effectively and aligned with Strides Pharma Science Limited’s broader sustainability goals.

A Growing CSR Footprint

The CSR spending pattern in 2025 shows a clear emphasis on long-term projects rather than one-time activities. Education and healthcare continue to dominate the portfolio, while skill development is gradually gaining importance.

According to the annual report, Strides Pharma Science Limited’s approach is to create sustainable impact by addressing root causes rather than symptoms. This includes improving access to quality education, strengthening healthcare systems, and enhancing employability.
