NEW DELHI: Shiv Nadar Foundation today announced an investment of Rs 500 crore in its university coming up at Dadri in Greater Noida. Shiv Nadar University is the first varsity established by the Foundation, which is run by HCL founder Shiv Nadar for philanthropic and educational activities.
The varsity will start its academic session from 2011-12 with school of engineering, Foundation trustee T S R Subramanian said here.Shiv Nadar Apart from benefitting students directly, the varsity will contribute to the development of Uttar Pradesh by enhancing its position as an education hub, he added.
The varsity campus was coming up over 286 acres, he said even as he thanked the state government for its active support to the Foundation. In first phase, the varsity will have the capacity to impart education to roughly 4,000 students before expanding to full proposed capacity of 8,000 students. “Every two years, we will add schools of different disciplines including schools of education, management and sciences,” he added.
At present, the Foundation is running a school of engineering in Chennai. “We are holding talks with several top universities around the world for academic collaborations,” he informed. To rope in experienced faculties, the Foundation is scouting for faculties associated with reputed varsities in India and abroad for firming up different arrangements, including sabbaticals.
The Foundation runs VidyaGyan Schools in Bulandshahr, Sitapur and Varanasi districts for children of the deprived sections of society, he added.
