The programme has been launched by Rungta International Skills University, Bhilai, in academic association with India CSR to build future-ready leaders for India’s CSR, sustainability and development sectors

NEW DELHI: In a major step toward shaping the next generation of socially conscious and industry-ready business leaders, Rungta International Skills University, Bhilai, in academic association with India CSR, has announced the launch of a unique, practice-oriented BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG Programme.

Strengthening this academic initiative, Satish Jha Foundation will support up to five deserving students with 100% scholarship for the programme. The scholarship support aims to ensure that meritorious students with a strong interest in social impact, sustainability and responsible business are not denied access to quality education due to financial constraints.

The three-year undergraduate programme is designed to prepare future leaders across corporate, public, social and sustainability sectors. It combines classroom learning with practical exposure, field immersion, internships, live projects and industry engagement.

Satish Jha, Founder, Satish Jha Foundation said, “Education becomes truly meaningful when it opens doors for the future. Through this scholarship support, Satish Jha Foundation is proud to help young learners pursue a future-ready programme in CSR, Sustainability and ESG, and prepare themselves to serve society with knowledge, ethics and purpose.”

Rusen Kumar, CEO, India CSR said, “The BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG is a timely academic initiative for India’s growing responsible business ecosystem. With the support of Satish Jha Foundation, deserving students will receive an opportunity to build careers in CSR, ESG, sustainability and social impact leadership.”

Building a Future-Ready Talent Pipeline

The BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG responds to the growing importance of responsible business practices, sustainability, ESG reporting, CSR compliance, impact management and climate action in India.

India is the first country in the world to legally mandate Corporate Social Responsibility under the Companies Act, 2013. CSR and ESG have now become central to how businesses operate, how communities develop and how sustainability is measured.

According to the programme document, CSR spending in India reached Rs. 34,909 crore in FY24, growing at a CAGR of 8.74% between FY20 and FY24. The document also highlights that 63% of companies exceeded their mandated CSR spending in FY24, compared to 34% in FY20.

In this evolving landscape, trained CSR, ESG and sustainability professionals are becoming essential for compliance, reporting, stakeholder engagement, impact evaluation and long-term value creation.

Industry-Oriented Academic Programme

The programme has been designed as a regular, field-integrated and internship-based undergraduate course. It integrates academic rigour with practical relevance and industry exposure.

The specialized curriculum will cover key areas such as:

  • CSR and Responsible Business: CSR law, Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, CSR Rules, Schedule VII, CSR committees, CSR reporting and responsible business conduct.
  • ESG Frameworks and Reporting: BRSR, GRI Standards, integrated reporting, sustainability reporting, ESG compliance and carbon accounting basics.
  • Climate Change and Sustainability: Climate change, net zero studies, renewable energy, environmental responsibility and sustainability leadership.
  • Impact Assessment and Social Audit: Need assessment, monitoring and evaluation, social return on investment, social auditing and impact assessment studies.
  • Governance and Ethical Leadership: Corporate governance, stakeholder engagement, responsible decision-making and ethical business practices.
  • The curriculum brings together CSR law, ESG frameworks, sustainability science and development practice within the Indian regulatory and socio-economic context.

Practical Exposure and Field Learning

The programme gives strong emphasis to experiential learning. Students will gain exposure through field visits, corporate and NGO internships, live projects, sustainability reporting workshops and capstone impact projects.

They will also interact with CSR heads, sustainability leaders, ESG practitioners, corporate executives, government officials, development sector experts and impact assessment professionals.

This industry-academia interface will help students connect classroom learning with real-world challenges in CSR, ESG, sustainability and inclusive development.

Satish Jha Foundation’s Scholarship Support

The support from Satish Jha Foundation will create meaningful access for deserving students. At least five students will receive 100% scholarship support for the BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG Programme.

The scholarship will help promote equity, merit and opportunity in the emerging fields of CSR, ESG and sustainability. It will also encourage talented youth to pursue careers in social impact, responsible business, climate action, development management and sustainability leadership.

Through this initiative, Satish Jha Foundation reinforces its commitment to education, social responsibility and leadership development.

Academic Association with India CSR

India CSR brings domain expertise, sectoral insight and industry relevance to the programme. As one of India’s leading knowledge platforms dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility, ESG and sustainable development, India CSR has been contributing to responsible business dialogue, CSR awareness, policy discourse and impact-driven communication for over a decade.

Through this academic association, India CSR will support the programme with knowledge leadership, practitioner engagement, industry insights and exposure to the evolving CSR and ESG ecosystem.

Career Pathways

The BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG will prepare students for emerging professional roles across corporate, consulting, development, governance, sustainability and policy domains.

Graduates may pursue roles such as CSR Executive, ESG Analyst, Sustainability Officer, CSR Compliance Officer, Impact Assessment Consultant, NGO Programme Manager, Sustainability Reporting Associate and Social Audit Professional.

The programme will also provide a strong foundation for higher studies in CSR, ESG, sustainability management, public policy, environmental management and development studies.

Who Should Apply

The programme is suitable for students passionate about social change, sustainable development, ethical business practices, corporate responsibility and ESG careers.

Students from Science, Commerce and Arts backgrounds may apply. Candidates interested in social impact, sustainability, corporate governance, development studies and responsible leadership will find the programme especially relevant.
