New Delhi – Reliance Industries Ltd reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 5.18% in the financial year 2018-19 (Apr-Mar) as compared to the previous year, the company said in its annual report.
The company attributed the reduction to change in the fuel mix.
The Scope 1 or direct emissions from fuel consumption during the reporting period were 29.36 million tCO2 as against 31.50 million tCO2 in FY18 and Scope 2 or indirect emissions from electricity consumption were 1.15 million tCO2, the company’s annual report said.
The company also managed to reduce its total particulate matter (TPM) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX) to 2.29 million MT and 34.43 million MT from 3.04 million MT and 36.72 million MT respectively.
The company brought down its non-hazardous waste from 909 million MT in FY18 to 798.61 million MT in the year ended 31 Mar.
The company also saved 26.5 million GJ of energy on account of conservation initiatives.
Among other environment related initiatives, over 0.49 million saplings were planted during FY19.
