Reliance Industries and Meta will develop an AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar to support global AI infrastructure needs.
MUMBAI (India CSR): Reliance Industries Limited, India’s largest private sector company with interests in energy, petrochemicals, retail, digital services, media and renewables, has partnered with Meta Platforms, Inc. to develop a 168 MW AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, within two years to support AI compute and global digital infrastructure needs, the company said.
Reliance Industries Limited reported consolidated revenue of Rs 11,75,919 crore, cash profit of Rs 1,71,258 crore and net profit of Rs 95,754 crore for the year ended March 31, 2026.
The project will be developed by Reliance Industries Limited and will mark Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India. Meta will lease capacity from the facility.
According to the company, the data centre will serve Meta’s global infrastructure requirements. It will support the company’s core business and AI compute needs. Meta builds digital platforms and technologies focused on human connection, artificial intelligence and immersive experiences. Its major platforms include Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The project is also being positioned as part of India’s growing role in the global digital and artificial intelligence ecosystem. It comes at a time when AI infrastructure, cloud computing and data centre capacity are becoming important parts of digital economies.
Under the agreement, Reliance Industries Limited will provide end-to-end services for the data centre. These include design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity and managed operational services.
This makes RIL responsible for the full lifecycle of the facility. The company said this role positions it as a single-window solutions provider for hyperscale AI infrastructure in India.
The facility will be located in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The company said the location offers advantages for large-scale data centre operations. These include delivery capability, renewable energy, water availability, proximity to India’s western submarine cable landing stations and access to Jio’s fibre network.
The data centre will be powered by renewable energy. It will also use desalinated seawater for cooling. This gives the project a sustainability and ESG relevance, particularly in relation to clean energy use and water management in large digital infrastructure projects.
The company said the partnership aligns with the Government of India’s priorities, which designate data centres as strategic national infrastructure. It also connects with the long-term policy framework aimed at attracting global AI infrastructure investment into India.
For policymakers, corporates, CSR leaders and ESG professionals, the project reflects the increasing link between digital infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainability and India’s role in AI-led economic development.
Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited, said, “This partnership with Meta marks a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure. Building India’s first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta’s scale demonstrates India’s readiness to be at the forefront of the global AI revolution. At Reliance, we are committed to building world-class digital infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI innovation – not just for India, but for the world. Jamnagar will become a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing, and we are proud to partner with Meta to make this vision a reality.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Meta, said, “We’re proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data center in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India’s economy.”
