PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Rs. 147 Cr Infosys Foundation-Supported Healthcare Centre in Chandigarh

Facility Offers Obstetric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Human Milk Bank and Emergency Care

BENGALURU (India CSR): Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic and CSR arm of Infosys, today announced the inauguration of an advanced mother and neonatal care facilities wing at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, which will help strengthen the institute’s maternity and neonatal care facilities. Through this collaboration, Infosys Foundation committed a grant of over INR 147 crore towards critical medical equipment for the institute’s newly opened Advanced Mother and Child Centre (AMCC), which will help reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates and provide low-income families access to high-quality and affordable healthcare.

The Advanced Mother and Child Centre (AMCC) was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in the presence of; Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT Chandigarh; J.P. Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare; Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways; Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh; Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, Trustee, Infosys Foundation; Prof Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, along with other senior government officials and executives.

The AMCC is equipped with triage and emergency services for pregnant women, labor and delivery units, resuscitation facilities, obstetric intensive care and high dependency units for specialized care, neonatal intensive care units, modular operation theatres, a blood bank, a human milk bank, and a kangaroo mother care ward, among other care facilities. The center will aim to benefit over 25,000 pregnant women and newborns annually.

    Prof Vivek Lal, Director, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, said, “Strengthening maternal and neonatal healthcare remains a national priority as India works towards building a healthier and more inclusive future.  I am deeply indebted to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J.P. Nadda Ji, andthe Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for having dedicated this Advanced Mother and Child Center (AMCC), at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, to the nation.”

    “This center will play an important role in expanding access to quality care for mothers and newborns. The Ayushman Scheme launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, is providing cutting edge healthcare free of cost to underprivileged patients. I deeply appreciate the contribution of Infosys Foundation in their ongoing endeavor in strengthening healthcare across India to positively impact the underserved communities.”, he added.

    Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, Trustee, Infosys Foundation, said “The great strides that India is making in its socio-economic development must be supplemented by advancements in healthcare facilities to build a stronger nation. Our support to PGIMER is in line with the Infosys Foundation’s commitment to supporting transformative healthcare initiatives that are inclusive and create a lasting impact on society. By providing sophisticated critical care medical equipment to AMCC, we aim to provide enhanced support towards maternal and neonatal care.”
