SIPAT (Bilaspur)/Chhattisgarh: In an effort to nurture the budding sports talents of project affected villages and providing a platform to perform and bring out their sporting talents under the aegis of Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development (CSR;-CD) activity NTPC Limited’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Station organized rural sports festival at NTPC stadium on 27 January 2014. In this sporting extravaganza around 550 students from 12 nearby affected villages were participated. Govt High School Uttarda was emerged as the Champions and Govt High School, Pandhi declared as the Runners-up in this sports carnival.
Apart from electricity generation NTPC has been a dedicated corporate in carrying out CSR activities in the surrounding villages. Students of 12 project affected village school of Sipat, Ralia, Rank, Dewari, Gautara, Pandhi, Uttarda, Khamharia, Jangi, Kaudia, Gudhi were participated in this contest. The track and field events were played on 16 events of 100, 200 and 400 meter race, long jump, high jump, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi and Volley ball.
The competition was inaugurated by Y. V. Rao, Executive Director, NTPC Sipat. In his addressing message he welcomed the players and teachers of every school. Shri Rao said “In the tender age sports and games plays a vital role for physical development”. NTPC-Sipat always works for the development of affected villages. Under promotion of sports and games every year it conducts Rural Sports competition among the students. At the valedictory ceremony, Shri Y V Rao awarded the victorious players of each sport. He congratulate the students of team Uttarda Govt High School for their all round champion performance.
