NL Mehra was the founder of Jaquar Group, a multi-diversified ‘Complete Bathroom and Lighting Solutions’ brand. He started the business in 1960 with the brand Essco and later launched the Jaquar brand in 1986 with his sons Rajesh Mehra, Ajay Mehra and Krishan Mehra. He was a visionary and an inspiration to many.
Idea Behind Brand
He named the brand after his grandmother Jai Kaur. He was a visionary and an inspiration to many, who built Jaquar into one of India’s foremost sanitary ware brands by refusing to crouch when things went awry. He also expanded the range of offerings to include whirlpools, shower panels, showers, steam cabins, spas, water heaters and lighting products. He established eight manufacturing facilities in India and one in South Korea, and made Jaquar a global brand with a presence in over 55 countries.
Early Life and Education
NL Mehra was born on December 12 December 2015 in a small village in Punjab, India. He was the youngest of five children. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. Mehra received his early education in a local village school. In 1950, he moved to Delhi to pursue higher education. He graduated from the University of Delhi with a degree in commerce in 1954.
Early Career
After graduating from college, Mehra worked for a few years in a small trading company. In 1960, he founded his own company, Essco, which manufactured faucets and other bathroom fittings. The company was a success, and Mehra soon became a leading figure in the Indian sanitary ware industry.
The Jaquar Brand
In 1986, Mehra launched the Jaquar brand of bathroom and lighting fixtures. The brand was named after his grandmother, Jai Kaur. Jaquar quickly became a popular choice for consumers in India and around the world. The company’s products are known for their high quality, innovative design, and stylish finishes.
A Philanthropist
Mehra was also a philanthropist. He donated generously to a number of charitable organizations, including the Red Cross, the Indian Cancer Society, and the Spastics Society of India. He was also a patron of the arts and supported a number of cultural institutions.
Death and Legacy
NL Mehra passed away on May 19, 2009, at the age of 84 He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. His legacy lives on through the Jaquar Group, which is one of the leading bathroom and lighting fixture companies in the world.
