LANJIGARH (Odisha): Vedanta R & R Colony has been praised by a UNDP Panel for its unique feature and has been dubbed as a model village for others to emulate. The colony is located at the foot-hill of Niyamgiri after displacement of the Borbhata, Sindhbahal and Kinarivillagers where 123 families’quarters have been made.
The colony has a population of 450. Currently 121DFs have been staying there,out of which 75 people were provided direct employment after getting training program by VAL and others opted for cash compensation in lieu of employment.
Each displaced family has been provided a pucca house of 45sq mtr with toilet, water and electricity facilities and along with certain basic facilities to the DFs in the form of black-tap road in the colony, pucca drainage, boundary wall, market complex, temple, school building, child care center, dispensary and a well-equipped community center with TV and music system. , streetlight, schooling facility within the campus,computer center and provision of primary medical facility within their reach with an instructor in the resettlement colony.
The company has also initiated some livelihood initiative through the formation of SHGs particularly for the women and engaged in the activities of mid-day meal, tailoring, phenyl making, supply food grain under public distribution system, goat rearing etc.
Employees from NVN Colony has been delivering their good efforts in Plant basically in Environment, Operation, CSR, Admin, Store related works and Each are drawing salary of Rs.15000/- per month. KrushnaMajhi, a resident of NVN Says”Now we all are happy due to VAL providing such type of facilities in our R & R Colony”.We are happy for incoming Rs.15000/- per month where as we are incoming only Rs.1000 per month from farming.”
Similarly KadaMajhi ,a house wife says” We have never thought about tailoring. Now I have been incoming through tailoring and able to send my daughter to college for studying +2 sciences.”
The R & R Colony Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar is becoming a model village which has been attracting more and more villagers .Looking to their life style the villagers of Rengopali,Bandhaguda has given their interest to give up their lands to Plant and will live like them in the Last Pallisabha held in 2012.
