NDTV’s CSR policy aims to contribute to the sustainable development of society and the environment.
NEW DELHI: NDTV, one of India’s leading media houses, has announced its contribution to corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for the financial year 2021-22. The company has contributed INR 18,07,800/- (0.30% of profit after tax) towards animal welfare activities through “Friendicoes SECA,” based on the recommendations of the CSR committee.
The contribution towards CSR activities is in compliance with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, which mandates that companies with a net worth of INR 500 crore or more, or a turnover of INR 1000 crore or more, or a net profit of INR 5 crore or more, must spend at least 2% of their average net profits of the preceding three years on CSR activities.
NDTV’s CSR policy aims to contribute to the sustainable development of society and the environment. The policy directs its CSR programmes towards poverty alleviation, eradicating hunger, promoting healthcare, providing sanitation and safe drinking water, promoting education and skill development, promoting gender equality, ensuring environmental sustainability, protection of national heritage, art and culture, rural development projects, slum area development, disaster management, and contribution to incubators or research and development projects.
The company believes that a business is an active entity of society and economy and plays an important role in nation-building. Through its CSR programmes, NDTV partners with reputed NGOs, government representatives, local community leaders, and others to generate maximum impact and contribute to the welfare and sustainable development of different segments of society.
In the financial year 2021-22, the company’s CSR funds were used to provide free education and meals to children in slums through NGP partners and to an NGO that works for animal welfare. NDTV has also worked with HelpAge India through its Hope Trust to build senior citizen homes in Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu) and Ladakh.
NDTV’s television arm has reported its best-ever annual result with a net profit of INR 591.80 million, an increase of 55% compared to the previous year. The total income of the company increased by 8.9% to INR 2,621.25 million. The group’s net profit was INR 847.62 million, an increase of 13%, and the total income was INR 4,208.90 million, an increase of 3% compared to the previous financial year.
