Gunwara River: Lifeline of Parli Region
Originating from the Balaghat hills, the 30-kilometer-long Gunwara River eventually merges with the Godavari River. It is a lifeline for the Parli region. The river’s revival is expected to solve the area’s longstanding water crisis. Earlier, groundwater levels had fallen to 400–500 feet. Now, they are likely to rise to just 50–60 feet. This will not only make water available for drinking and household use but also significantly improve irrigation.

Vision Behind the Project
Addressing the villagers, Mayank Gandhi said, “A village draws its strength from its rivers. When a river flows, the village breathes. Our aim is not just river cleaning, but the holistic upliftment of rural life.” He also mentioned that the project was launched based on the success of similar efforts on the Papanashi River in Parli taluka and at Rui village in Gevrai taluka.

Relief for Local Farmers
Villagers shared that the region is known for cultivating soybean, cotton, tur, chana, jowar, sugarcane, mulberry, and custard apple. However, recurring water shortages in recent years had severely impacted farming. The river rejuvenation project is expected to restore irrigation, allowing farmers to cultivate regularly and profitably once again.
