ANGUL (Odisha): Padmashree Dr. Kiran Bedi gave the best CSR award in Women empowerment initiative in Odisha to Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), Angul last evening at Bhubaneswar. The award, based on a survey and study by a panel of social scientists of Vivekananda Institute of Social Work and Social Science, was received by Prashant Kumar Hota, Vice President (CSR & Corp. Communication), JSPL.
In the Citation of award JSPL was profusely applauded for its women centric Social projects i.e. Kishori Express (for covering 40000 adolescent girls for hemoglobin test and IFA Tablet Administration), Aanchal Programme (benefiting 4000 women through online registration of pregnant women, SMS Service for ante natal care & institutional delivery), sustainable livelihood options (for covering 800 women through capacity building, skill training and market linkages and supporting 177 women for micro enterprises using locally grown vegetables, fruits and forest produces), promoting higher education of girls students through merit scholarships and encouraging Women farmers through NABARD-JSPL collaborated Watershed Development Projects in 3450 acres of Watershed across 5 villages.
Receiving the Award Mr. Hota thanked the jury and management of VISWASS for the recognition. “Receiving the award from the first woman IPS of India, who was a role model herself as a social reformist and a ‘ Change Agent’ is the great motivation for the CSR team of JSPL,” said Mr. Hota.
Congratulating the CSR Team, DK Saraogi, Executive Director & Location Head said, “Guided by visionary and our founder OP Jindal and motivated by our Chairman Naveen Jindal, we have shaped the women empowerment projects as the centre point of our CSR interventions as these projects have the potential to build healthy and educated families”

Women empowerment has been an intrinsic part of all the CSR programmes being taken up by JSPL. Besides, its women focused activities have contributed significantly in enhancing social, economical and health status of women in rural areas.
During 2013-14, JSPL’s Angul Unit has won four awards in the field of CSR for its sustainable community development initiatives.
