MUMBAI India CSR): Pharmaceutical titan Wockhardt Limited has announced the immediate appointment of Amelia Fernandes, a distinguished journalist and literature enthusiast, to its board of directors as an additional independent director. This noteworthy appointment, disclosed through an exchange filing, signals a unique cross-industry collaboration, promising to bring a fresh perspective to the board’s decision-making processes.
Amelia Fernandes’ entry into Wockhardt’s board room heralds a unique confluence of the worlds of journalism, literature, and pharmaceuticals. Her diverse experiences and insights are expected to bring a fresh perspective to Wockhardt’s strategies and decision-making processes, potentially steering the pharmaceutical giant through the industry’s evolving challenges and opportunities.
The Board, on the recommendation of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, has also recommended her appointment as an Independent Director of the Company for a term of five years i.e. till July 17, 2028, subject to approval by the Members at the ensuing AGM.
Amelia Fernandes: A Blend of Journalism and Literature
Fernandes boasts a prolific career spanning journalism and literature, making her appointment to Wockhardt’s board an intriguing development. As an independent journalist, she served as the Editor of Femina, India’s leading women’s magazine, and held essential editorial roles in various publications, including the Saturday Times, The Times of India’s Special Projects, and the Sunday edition of DNA newspaper. She also spearheaded the successful launch of Jade, a popular magazine in South India.
Aside from her editorial roles, Fernandes serves as the Director of Literature Live! – Mumbai’s exclusive literary festival known for hosting literary events and workshops throughout the year. She’s also the Director of Blank Slate Knowledge Foundation, dedicated to fostering reading habits among students via extra-curricular activities.
A New Chapter at Wockhardt
Following the recommendation of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, Fernandes’ appointment as an independent director is set to be confirmed for a term of five years – until July 17, 2028 – pending approval by members at the company’s upcoming 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
