RAIGARH: Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has set up a OP Jindal Community Colleges (OPJCC ) in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.
The Community College is located in the premises of OP Jindal Institute of Technology (OPJIT) in Punjipathara Village of Raigarh District nearly 25 km from district headquarter.
Today (August 7, 2011), on the occasion of 81st birth day anniversary of OP Jindal, founder of OP Jindal Group, OPJCC was inaugurated during the public function in the campus.
Jila Panchayat Raigarh, Chief Executive Office (CEO) Mohammad Keshar Abdul Huk was the chief guest of the inauguration function. Mr. N.A.Ansari, Executive Director, JSPL Raigarh was present as special guest.
During his address CEO Mohammad Keshar Abdul Huk appreciated the ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the area special for the rural youth.
In his speech Mr. N.A.Ansari highlighted the CSR works of the company and commitment towards society.
Mr Ansari said that the main objective of the college are to introduce an alternative system of competency based skill oriented technical and vocational training to the local youth, meeting the need of the domestic industry and to strengthen employability of the marginalized and underprivileged sections in the local market.
OPJCC is a Vocation Training Institute in partnership with IGNOU and under the technical guideline of Montegomery College, Mayrald, USA.
The Jindal Group has been actively involved in the field of education. The objective behind the initiative is to provide suitable technical, professional and vocational education to the youth of India, so as to improve the quality of education and ensure that skilled manpower is always available for the industry.
Presently 5 community colleges are working in 5 different locations in 3 states. These are located in Angul, Barbil (Odisha), Patratu, Godda (Jharkhand) and Punjipathra (Chhattisgarh). IGNOU is working as a nodal agency for colleges. Community colleges are offering 37 certificate courses, 8 Diploma and Associated Degree Courses. All liberated persons are eligible for admission.

“This is a philanthropic initiative of O.P. Jindal Group dedicated towards, the improvement of marginalized segment of our country.” he added.
Youth will be trained in different kinds of welding techniques and construction trades such as mason, scaffolder, plumber, carpenter, barbender and tile layers..
