MUMBAI: D Y Patil International School, Worli hosted the #NowForClimate Tree Plantation Drive on campus, bringing students into a climate-awareness initiative led by Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil and Ish Patil in association with Bhamla Foundation.

The event was organised as part of the World Environment Day 2026 campaign and saw students participate in a tree plantation activity alongside educators, invited guests and public personalities. The initiative placed environmental responsibility within the school environment, giving students a direct way to engage with climate action beyond classroom discussion.

Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil, Chairman of the Ajeenkya D Y Patil Group, was present for the initiative, which reflected the Group’s continuing focus on education that extends beyond academic achievement. The event aligned with a broader approach to schooling that encourages students to participate in civic and environmental issues through practical exposure.

Ish Patil’s involvement was a key part of the event, bringing attention to the next-generation perspective within the D Y Patil education ecosystem. Her participation highlighted the importance of building school experiences that respond to the concerns of today’s students, including climate awareness, social responsibility and community engagement.

The drive also included Saher Bhamla, an alumna of DYPIS, Worli, who returned to the campus through Bhamla Foundation’s climate initiative. Her participation added a strong alumni connection to the event, linking former and current students through a shared message of environmental responsibility.

Actor and wellness advocate Shilpa Shetty was among the prominent public figures associated with the initiative. The event also saw participation from names across media, entertainment, wellness and public life, including Faye D’Souza, Yasmin Karachiwala, Kanika Kapoor, Neeti Mohan, Pankaja Munde, Jaykumar Rawal, Lakshmi Manchu, Chhaya Momaya and Humaira Kaazi.

For DYPIS, Worli, the tree plantation drive served as an example of how schools are increasingly using campus-led activities to introduce students to larger social concerns. In a city like Mumbai, where issues such as heat, air quality and shrinking green cover are part of everyday life, the initiative gave students a visible and participatory way to understand environmental responsibility.

The programme included sapling plantation, student interaction, guest participation and campus activity around the #NowForClimate campaign. It also reinforced the role of educational institutions in shaping students who are not only academically prepared but also aware of the civic and environmental challenges around them.

With Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil and Ish Patil at the centre of the initiative, the event positioned DYPIS, Worli as a school using real-world participation to build awareness among students. The presence of Saher Bhamla further strengthened the message that the values shaped within a school can continue to find expression through its alumni and their work in the wider community.
