Honasa Consumer planted half a million trees and encouraged organic farming, offsetting 250,000 tons of carbon emissions contributing to environmental sustainability, and fostering co-existence with nature.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Honasa Consumer Limited has achieved a remarkable environmental milestone by successfully planting 500,000 trees across the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan and has effectively greened over 3500 acres. This extensive tree planting effort is part of the company’s broader Plant Goodness Initiative, which aims to tackle deforestation and boost the socio-economic status of rural communities.

The India’s leading beauty and personal care company with a diverse portfolio of purpose-driven brands, released its first impact report, ‘Driven By Purpose’, assessed by Aspire Impact Ratings Pvt. Ltd., highlighting the impact of their social and environment efforts while showcasing a responsibly governed organization.

Aligned with its overarching commitment to enriching both consumers and communities, the company embarks on a mission to foster a sustainable future through environmentally conscious practices and socially impactful initiatives seamlessly integrated into the ethos of its brands.

The report details the significant impacts of various purpose-driven initiatives, assessing their contributions to economic development, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment. These efforts have catalyzed positive change across India, reaching 14 states and 2 Union Territories, and promoting sustainable growth and transformative societal benefits.

Starting with the first brand, Mamaearth’s Plant Goodness initiative, which is dedicated to afforestation and supporting farmer livelihoods. In collaboration with Sankalptaru Foundation, Honasa planted 5 lakh trees and empowered 581 farmers with livelihood opportunities. This initiative not only encourages sustainable agricultural practices but also anticipates a significant yield of over 10,000 tons of fruit annually, generating a potential revenue of more than INR 20 crore. Additionally, the initiative has led to substantial environmental benefits, including the sequestration of 250,000 tons of carbon and the production of 500,000 tons of oxygen each year, while greening 3,500 acres of land, the report revealed.

‘Driven By Purpose’ – A Commitment to Sustainability

The launch of Honasa Consumer Limited’s inaugural impact report titled ‘Driven By Purpose’ marks a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainability. Assessed by Aspire Impact Ratings Pvt. Ltd., this report outlines the tangible impacts of the company’s initiatives on the environment and society, reinforcing its status as a responsibly governed organization.

Sustainable Practices

Honasa Consumer Limited, a front-runner in the Indian beauty and personal care market, continues to set benchmarks with its commitment to sustainability and consumer wellness. Known for its dynamic approach in the digital-first landscape, the company offers a wide array of purpose-driven brands that not only cater to aesthetic needs but also advocate for societal and environmental responsibility.

*****

Environmental Endeavors and Social Impact

Honasa’s portfolio, including the standout brand Mamaearth, is renowned for products that are toxin-free, cruelty-free, and inspired by nature. The company’s environmental efforts, such as plastic recycling and afforestation initiatives, illustrate its dedication to “heal the planet, one bloom at a time.”

*****

3500 Acres of Greener Land

Through its dedicated afforestation efforts, Honasa Consumer Limited has effectively greened over 3500 acres. Afforestation, the process of planting trees in barren lands or converting areas not previously forested into forests, is recognized as a crucial strategy for carbon sequestration. By implementing these practices, the company contributes significantly to the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thus playing a vital role in combating climate change.

Environmental and Socio-Economic Impacts

The environmental benefits of these efforts extend beyond just beautifying the landscape and reducing carbon in the atmosphere. The trees planted, predominantly fruit- and fodder-bearing, are expected to sequester approximately 250,000 tons of carbon and produce over 500,000 tons of oxygen over the next 20 years. This massive influx of greenery not only helps stabilize the climate but also supports biodiversity, improves soil quality, and reduces erosion.

On the socio-economic front, these afforestation efforts have revitalized local economies. By introducing sustainable income sources through agroforestry, Honasa Consumer Limited has empowered local farmers, enabling them to transition from traditional, often less sustainable agricultural practices to more profitable and environmentally friendly ones.

Boosting Rural Economies

The initiative emphasizes sustainable farming practices such as vermicomposting and drip irrigation, which have been taught to 581 farmers, enabling them to optimize their resources and increase their farms’ output and sustainability. This approach has the potential to generate over INR 20 crores annually, improving the economic stability of rural communities.

*****

Personal Stories of Transformation

Testimonials from local farmers, like Navneet Mandothi and Inderjeet Singh, highlight the personal impacts of these initiatives. Mandothi, a former production engineer turned organic farmer, credits the initiative with providing him the tools and knowledge to transform his agricultural practices and livelihood. Similarly, Singh, a retired army personnel, has found a rewarding second career in fruit farming, significantly boosting his income and community standing.
