Hindustan Zinc’s Shiksha Sambal Summer Camp Brings Learning and Innovation to Over 1,600 Students

RAJASTHAN: Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top global silver producers, is empowering more than 1,600 students from government schools across six districts of Rajasthan through summer training camps under its flagship Shiksha Sambal Programme. The initiative aims to strengthen academic learning while fostering holistic development among rural students through a blend of education, sports, cultural engagement and life skills training.

The 9th Residential Summer Camp, organised by Hindustan Zinc in association with the Vidya Bhavan Society, was formally inaugurated at Vidya Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. The residential camp, that is being held from 20th May to 19th June 2026, is benefiting over 340 students, from Class 8, Class 10 and Class 12 (Science stream).

Additionally, over 1,200 students are participating in non-residential camps being conducted across Hindustan Zinc’s operational locations at Chanderiya, Dariba, Debari, Kayad, Agucha and Zawar. Together, these camps are creating opportunities for students to engage in academic enrichment alongside physical, intellectual and cultural activities that contribute to their overall development.

Speaking on the Summer Camp, Kapil Lohar, Student at Shiksha Sambal Residential Camp, Chittorgarh said, “This summer camp has given me an opportunity to learn beyond my school textbooks. Through activities like, digital learning and group sessions, I have gained new knowledge, improved my confidence and made new friends. The experience is helping me think differently about my future and the career opportunities available to me.”

Adding to this, Harshita Meghwal, Student at Shiksha Sambal Non-residential Camp, Debari “The camp makes learning enjoyable and interactive. I especially enjoy the practical activities, creative workshops and sports sessions, which help me understand concepts better while developing new skills. The guidance from teachers and mentors motivate me to understand things better.”

This year’s summer camp has bought together digital learning modules, audio-visual teaching tools and experiential learning activities. Students are also being introduced to creative and emerging disciplines such as robotics, clay art, pottery and innovative creations from waste materials, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking and practical skills.

The confidence, enthusiasm and positive spirit displayed by students throughout this ongoing camp reflect the supportive and nurturing environment created by teachers, volunteers and programme facilitators. Beyond academics, the camps provide a home-like atmosphere that helps children build self-confidence, discipline and aspirations for the future. What began as an experimental initiative a decade ago has evolved into a successful educational intervention with steadily increasing participation each year. For over two decades, Hindustan Zinc’s Shiksha Sambal Programme has been addressing educational gaps in rural communities by improving access to quality learning opportunities for underserved children.

The Shiksha Sambal Programme of Hindustan Zinc supported over 13,000 students are benefiting in FY 26 by providing additional teachers, learning materials, and academic support, particularly in Science, Mathematics, and English in government schools. The programme is designed to strengthen learning outcomes and improve academic performance among students in rural communities. To further enhance the students’ learning experience, the programme also promotes conceptual clarity and experiential learning through focused academic interventions. Recently, Hindustan Zinc has established four immersive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Labs across Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, aimed at making classrooms more interactive, engaging, technology-enabled, and innovation-led.

Hindustan Zinc, continues to advance its vision of holistic community development through various social interventions and community development initiatives, nurturing education, building skills, enabling sustainable livelihoods, empowering women, encouraging sports, strengthening healthcare, and preserving the environment. With a footprint that spans over 4,000 villages, Hindustan Zinc is positively transforming the lives of more than 2.6 million people and remains deeply committed to fostering inclusive growth and long-term social impact.
