New Delhi: Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL) has been recognized with the India CSR Project of the Decade (Large Impact) award for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The award recognizes GSECL’s efforts to address issues related to professional education and empower disadvantaged and rural populations through a range of programs and interventions. GSECL has focused on developing self-reliance among beneficiary communities through targeted programs and has adopted a “low cost, high impact” model for its CSR initiatives.
GSECL was honored at the 13th India CSR Leadership Summit by Chief Guest Shri R.K. Sinha, Honorable Former Rajya Sabha Member and Founder & CMD of Security & Intelligence Services (India) Limited (SIS), in the presence of Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, and Rusen Kumar, Founder and Managing Editor of India CSR.
GSECL’s CSR Program Focuses on Quality Education, Optimal Healthcare, and More for Underprivileged Communities
GSECL has been working with underprivileged communities, particularly in the areas surrounding its power plants in Gujarat, for many years. The company’s CSR program has evolved to meet the changing needs of these communities, with an increased focus on quality education, optimal healthcare, the environment, strong infrastructure, animal welfare, disaster relief, and inclusive living for people with disabilities.
GSECL Adopts “Low Cost, High Impact” Model for CSR Initiatives
In an effort to make the impact of its CSR initiatives more long-lasting and holistic, GSECL has focused on developing self-reliance among beneficiary communities through targeted programs. The company has adopted a “low cost, high impact” model, identifying and implementing projects with modest costs that have a cascading effect on the community. From fiscal year 2014 to fiscal year 2021-2022, GSECL has spent INR 26.15 crore (approximately $3.6 million) on various social development initiatives, while also operating on a low cost/no cost model.
GSECL’s CSR Projects Carried Out by Non-CSR Employees as Volunteers
All of GSECL’s CSR projects, from need assessment surveys to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, have been carried out by non-CSR employees who work additional hours as volunteers. The company hopes that this award will motivate its employees and encourage others to get involved in giving back to the community.
