HYDERABAD, MARCH 9: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd has bagged ‘FICCI CSR Award–2012-13’, for its CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives.
The award was from FICCI Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence under the winner category in private sector companies. It was conferred based on the assessment by Grant Thornton and Birla Institute of Management Technology.
SGK Kishore, CEO-GHIAL, in a statement said: “This recognition is a special acknowledgement of something which is very close to the heart of every GHIAL employee. The commitment of inclusive approach for integrated growth of the business and communities along with the strong value system imbibed in our employees is the key factor that has made our CSR initiatives sustainable and participative to deliver value to our stakeholders.”
This airport has been implementing many CSR activities over the years. These include setting up a CBSE English medium school GMR Chinmaya Vidyalaya and sponsoring poor and meritorious children from airport neighbouring villages to this school, adopting government anganwadis to improve educational standards, adopting government schools to improve quality of education, GMR IBM Kidsmart Centers–technology and activity based learning for primary level government schools, community libraries for villages.
A medical mobile unit has been running especially for elderly care in 10 villages and evening clinics in 5 villages. Nutrition centres have also been set up to help women in both pre and post-natal status. A residential skill development centre is also being run near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to train school and college dropout youth in job-oriented skills.
