DHENKANAL (Odisha): GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), which is setting up the 4×350 MW coal-based thermal power plant at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal District, celebrated the 65th Republic Day with patriotic zeal on Sunday. Mr. R. Raveendranathan Nair, Chief Operating Officer, GKEL, unfurled the National Flag and received the guard of honour from Raxa employees and school children from neighbouring villages.
Greeting people from GKEL’s neighbourhood villagers, employees and stake holders, Mr. Nair said that the journey of GKEL so far has been fruitful despite many hurdles faced on the way. “We are happy say that we have commissioned two units and the third unit will be commissioned soon, which will cater to the needs of Odisha and other states,” he remarked. Besides generating power, “GKEL places great emphasis on periphery development,” he added.
Mr. Nair distributed prizes to students of the GKEL established and supported GMR Varalakshmi DAV Public School besides the Manpur High School for displaying exceptional performance in the parade. In the morning, Mr. Arindam Chatterjee, Vice President, GKEL, unfurled the National Flag at the GMR Varalakshmi DAV Public School and distributed prizes to its talented students.
Mr. K.V. Ramana Murty, Advisor and Mr. Sanatan Senapati, General Manager, Security, GKEL besides Mr. Hemchandra Jena and Mr. Gopal Krushnan, Deputy General Managers, Raxa, were among the dignitaries present on the occasion. Mr. Satya Prasad Das, Associate Manager-HR, GKEL, anchored the program. Under the direction of GKEL’s Fire Chief Mr. Dilip Sethy, fire safety measures were demonstrated on the occasion.
Similarly, Republic Day was celebrated in GKEL’s neighbourhood villagers with the support of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, the CSR arm of the GMR Group. GMRVF volunteers distributed sweets to 1800 children in nine villages. In addition, competitions were organized by GMRVF for children in three schools, which included debate, quiz and singing of patriotic songs and prizes were distributed to 24 students.
A Photo Exhibition was organized wherein different photographs highlighting the life and messages of Mahatma Gandhi and leading freedom fighters, evolution of the national flag, etc., were displayed for the benefit of the students of Mangalpur Sishu Mandir School. Likewise financial support was provided to Laxminarayan Youth club of Manpur village to celebrate the Republic Day.
