BANGALORE: India’s bustling aviation sector is preparing to welcome a highly anticipated new entrant. Ek Bharat Airlines officially unveiled its comprehensive launch strategy this week, signaling a strong commitment to bolstering the nation’s regional air connectivity. With a strategic international leasing agreement in place and a massive recruitment drive underway, the airline is laying a robust foundation well ahead of its maiden flight, which is slated for early 2028.

Strategic Fleet Acquisition

In a definitive move to solidify its operational capabilities, Ek Bharat Airlines confirmed it has successfully negotiated a leasing agreement with Sushimo, a prominent aircraft leasing company based in Hong Kong. Under the terms of the agreement, the upcoming Indian carrier will lease five ATR 72 aircraft. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled to commence at the start of 2028.

The ATR 72, a twin-engine turboprop, is an industry favorite for short-haul flights due to its exceptional fuel efficiency and ability to operate on shorter runways. This strategic choice of aircraft underscores Ek Bharat Airlines’ core mission: to connect India’s underserved Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities with major metropolitan hubs, bridging the geographical divide and stimulating regional economic growth.

Massive Recruitment and In-House Training

While the aircraft will not touch down until 2028, the company is ensuring its human infrastructure is fully prepared long before the first boarding call. Ek Bharat Airlines has officially opened its doors for recruitment, announcing a wide-scale hiring initiative for ground staff and cabin crew.

To guarantee the highest standards of passenger safety and customer service, the airline is taking an uncompromising approach to employee development.

“We believe that our people are our greatest asset. By bringing our training entirely in-house, we can cultivate a unique corporate culture and ensure our service standards are world-class from day one.”

Rather than relying on third-party aviation academies, Ek Bharat Airlines is establishing a complete in-house training program. This rigorous, comprehensive training for all new hires is expected to officially commence in December 2026, giving the crew over a year to master safety protocols, hospitality standards, and emergency procedures before the fleet arrives.

Guided by Industry Veterans

Launching an airline in the highly competitive Indian aviation market requires precision, foresight, and experience. To navigate the complex regulatory and logistical landscape, Ek Bharat Airlines has been quietly but aggressively headhunting top-tier talent.

The company has successfully assembled a formidable leadership and operational team, bringing together seasoned professionals from diverse aviation backgrounds. From former executives of legacy carriers to operational experts from successful low-cost airlines, this coalition of veterans is currently spearheading the pre-launch preparations. Their collective expertise is instrumental in securing necessary regulatory approvals, designing route networks, and establishing maintenance protocols.

The Flight Path Ahead

The deliberate, staggered timeline—initiating training in late 2026 and taking delivery of the Sushimo-leased ATR fleet in early 2028—reflects a highly calculated approach to market entry. By prioritizing workforce readiness and securing reliable regional aircraft, Ek Bharat Airlines is positioning itself as a well-oiled machine, ready to capture a significant share of India’s booming domestic travel market.

As the December 2026 training milestone approaches, industry analysts, aviation enthusiasts, and eager travelers will be watching closely as Ek Bharat Airlines transforms from a bold blueprint into the skies’ newest reality.
